Motor Starters vs. Contactors vs. Overload Relays: What Each One Does and Why You Need All Three

Colour operator interface terminal from the GE Fanuc Industrial WorkStation family — a panel-mounted operator station for CIMPLICITY and Series 90 PLC systems, not a hand-held pendant and not a PLC module. 44A295081-003R06 is the GE drawing number; the product-family designation is IWS-1513-GE and the GE catalogue number for the family is IC600KD532. Supplied as the terminal alone: no cables, no keyboard, no mounting hardware and no software licence. Screen diagonal is not published in any source we can verify, so we have not stated one — ask and we will measure the actual unit.

This is a GE Fanuc colour Operator Interface Terminal from the Industrial WorkStation (IWS) family — a panel-mounted operator station with a colour display, built to sit in a machine or line-side enclosure and give an operator graphical access to a GE Fanuc control system. It is a complete terminal, not a circuit board, not a PLC module and not a hand-held teach pendant.
Getting the tier right matters here because “operator interface” covers three very different things in a GE Fanuc plant: the small text-only OIT keypads that hang off a Series 90-30, the hand-held jog pendants used on robots and CMMs, and the full graphical Industrial WorkStation. This is the third of those — the top tier, and priced accordingly.
Decoding the numbers, because there are three of them:
44A295081-003R06 — the GE drawing number. This is the number stamped on the unit and the one that appears in GE and third-party repair databases. The -003 block identifies the configuration and R06 the revision level. Sibling revisions such as -003R04 are catalogued by repair houses against the same product, which is good evidence that the R-number is a revision rather than a different product.IWS-1513-GE — the product-family designation. IWS = Industrial WorkStation. The GE3 variant of the same family is catalogued as IWS-1513-GE3.IC600KD532 — the GE catalogue number for the IWS-1513 family, with suffixed revisions such as IC600KD532C. If you are searching GE parts lists rather than repair databases, this is the number that will find it.
All three refer to the same physical product. A buyer holding a machine parts list will usually have only one of them, which is why all three are on this page.
Our previous listing described this as having a “12-inch colour display.” We cannot substantiate that figure from any GE, Emerson or repair-house source, so we have removed it rather than repeat it. Nothing we could verify publishes the screen diagonal for the IWS-1513. The listing also gave the brand as Fanuc alone; the correct entity for a 44A295081 / IC600KD532 part is GE Fanuc Automation — the GE–Fanuc joint venture, whose automation line passed to GE Intelligent Platforms and then to Emerson. Fanuc’s own CNC business never carried this part number.
If screen size decides your purchase, ask us and we will measure the bezel and the active display area on the actual unit and send you the numbers. We would rather do that than publish a figure we cannot stand behind.
What is in the box — and what is not:
This is the terminal only. Not included, and each of them is a separate purchase: the display and communications cabling to the PLC or host, any external keyboard or pointing device, the panel gasket and mounting clamps, the power cord, and any CIMPLICITY or runtime software licence. An IWS is useless on the bench without at least the cable set, so factor that into the comparison against a modern replacement panel.
Condition and what the “Tested” note means:
Our record marks this unit as new old stock, made in the USA, and tested. Testing on a unit of this type means it powered up and displayed — it is not a certification that every option and every port has been exercised against a live control. On a terminal of this vintage the components most likely to have aged are the backlight, any internal battery, and the electrolytic capacitors in the power section. None of those is a fault today; all of them are worth knowing about before the unit goes into a critical line.
Search forms include 44A295081-003R06, 44A295081003R06, 44A295081-003, IWS-1513-GE, IWS1513GE, IWS-1513, IWS-1513-GE3, IC600KD532, IC600KD532C and IC600-KD-532. The related larger unit in the same family is the IWS-2513.
The line is long obsolete with no factory replacement. The ownership trail buyers search is GE Fanuc Automation → GE Intelligent Platforms → Emerson. Board-level repair and refurbishment services for the IWS family are still commercially available, which is the practical reason a working original is worth more than a migration project: replacing an IWS means a new panel cutout, new cabling and new visualisation software, and for a machine that is otherwise sound that is a disproportionate amount of work.
