Decoding the designation A06B-6096-H106

A06B-6096 — the FANUC α series Servo Amplifier Module (SVM) family with FSSB interface, 200 V input class. The FSSB generation is what distinguishes this series from the earlier A06B-6079 / A06B-6089 SVMs, which use the older parallel/serial interfaces.-H1xx — a single-axis (SVM1) module. Why the two current figures matter

The 52.2 A rated and 130 A limit figures are not redundant. The rated current is what the module will deliver continuously without thermal derating; the 130 A limit is the peak available for acceleration and for the short high-torque bursts a rapid traverse or a heavy cut demands. Size on the rated figure against your duty cycle and on the limit figure against your worst-case acceleration torque. An amplifier chosen only on peak will trip thermally on a continuous cut; one chosen only on continuous will alarm during rapids.

The DC link — the commissioning point that catches people:
An SVM is not a self-contained drive. It has no mains rectifier of its own: the 283–325 Vdc it wants is supplied over the DC link bus bars by a separate FANUC Power Supply Module (PSM), which is the module that connects to the three-phase mains and handles regeneration. In a typical α series cabinet the PSM, any spindle module (SPM) and one or more SVMs sit side by side sharing that DC link. If you are ordering this module as a spare, confirm the PSM in the cabinet has the capacity headroom for a 9.1 kW axis and that the DC link bus bar links are the right length for the module width. Bench-testing an SVM in isolation without a PSM is not possible.

FSSB and CNC compatibility

Commands arrive over FSSB (FANUC Serial Servo Bus), a fibre-optic serial link daisy-chained from the CNC through each axis amplifier. Practically this means: the module must be in the correct position in the FSSB chain, and the CNC’s axis-to-amplifier assignment parameters must match the physical order. Swapping an amplifier into a different chain position without updating the FSSB parameters will produce an axis-mismatch alarm rather than a wiring fault. Motor pairing

The SVM1-130 is commonly applied with FANUC α Model 22 class servo motors. Because the H-code fixes the current rating, motor pairing is determined by the amplifier model rather than by parameter alone — check the motor/amplifier combination table in B-65162 against your motor’s model code before fitting.

What is and is not included

Servo amplifier module only. Not included: Power Supply Module (PSM), DC link bus bars and links, mains reactor, FSSB fibre-optic cables, motor power and feedback cables, servo motor, connectors, or fan/spare fan unit. Internal drive boards on A06B-6096 series units are commonly control cards A16B-2202-0790 or A20B-2100-0252 with power card A16B-2203-0454 — useful if you are cross-checking a repair or matching board revisions to an existing amplifier, though the exact fitted board set on any individual unit should be verified from the boards themselves.

Interchange, condition and obsolescence

The α series SVM generation is superseded in current FANUC production by the αi and βi series amplifiers. There is no drop-in modern equivalent: moving to αi means changing the PSM, the amplifiers, the FSSB topology and in most cases the CNC parameters together, so for a machine that is running, an in-kind α series SVM is by a wide margin the cheaper path. That is why the used and repaired market for A06B-6096 modules stays active.
