Product Description

What this part is

A GE Fanuc Series Three I/O Link Local communications module, IC630CCM310A, using a twisted-pair link. It fits in the Series Three base at the processor end of a remote I/O link and drives the link out to a remote I/O station, so a rack of I/O can be placed near the machine instead of running every field wire back to the main panel.

It is a communications module — no CPU, no I/O points, no display. The Local designation is the important word: this is the processor end of the link, not the remote end.

Decoding the order code

IC – GE Fanuc Automation industrial controls prefix.630 – the Series Three PLC family. This is the field most likely to be misread: the GE Fanuc groups do not interchange. IC610 is Series One, IC600 is Series Six, IC630 is Series Three, IC655 is Series Five, IC693 is Series 90-30 and IC697 is Series 90-70.CCM – the module class: communications and computer-interface modules. Series Three I/O modules carry MDL instead.310 – the specific module, here the I/O Link Local end, twisted-pair media.A – the hardware revision letter. A revision suffix, not a different product.

What these specs mean in practice

An I/O link needs a Local at one end and a Remote at the other. Two Locals will not talk to each other. Establish which end of your link has failed before ordering — this is the processor-end module.

The media matters as well. This is a twisted-pair link, not fibre and not coax, so the interconnecting cable must be a suitable shielded twisted pair, correctly terminated, and routed clear of motor and drive cabling. On legacy serial I/O links the overwhelming majority of intermittent remote-station faults turn out to be cable, shield or termination problems rather than module failures.

Series Three is a long-discontinued platform. Plan the link as a set: base, power supply, processor, link modules at both ends and the I/O modules all have to be Series Three parts.

What is not included

Module only. This listing does not include the matching remote-end link module, the Series Three CPU or processor module, the base unit or remote base, the rack power supply, the twisted-pair link cable, shield terminations or terminating resistors, any I/O modules, terminal blocks or connector kits, field wiring, mounting hardware, a programmer or programming software, or any documentation or ladder program. Both ends of the link plus the cable are required for a working remote I/O system; one end is supplied here.

Quantity and configuration

Sold as 1 piece — one Link Local module.

Installation and setup notes

Power down the base before inserting or removing the module. Handle it by the edges with a wrist strap. Land the twisted pair with the shield grounded at one end only, per GE Fanuc’s practice for this link, and terminate the trunk properly — an unterminated or double-grounded link produces exactly the intermittent faults that get blamed on the module. Confirm the link status indicators are healthy at both ends before trusting the remote I/O, and verify a few points through the programmer before running the machine.

Interchange guidance

Searchable equivalents of the same part: IC630CCM310A, IC630CCM310, IC630-CCM-310-A, IC630 CCM 310 A, IC630CCM310-A. Other revision letters of IC630CCM310 are the same module at a different revision. Not interchangeable: the remote-end module of the same link (a different number), any IC610 Series One or IC600 Series Six communications module, or the Series 90 family CMM modules. Different platform, different backplane, different link.

Correcting the source data

Earlier copy gave the brand as GE, described the unit as compatible with the S5 controller platform, and claimed Japanese manufacture. It is a GE Fanuc Automation Series Three module; S5 is an unrelated Siemens platform and has nothing to do with this part, and no country of origin is claimed here because neither the carton nor the manufacturer supports one.
