An 8-point card is the coarse-grained end of the Series Six discrete range, which suits heavier individual loads such as motor starter coils and large solenoids rather than dense panel-lamp duty. The outputs are solid state rather than relay contacts, so a small leakage current flows when the point is off. On high-impedance loads such as a neon indicator or the input of another electronic device, that leakage can keep the load faintly energised, and a bleeder resistor across the load is the standard remedy. Solid-state AC outputs do not switch DC loads.

Inductive loads take snubbing. Contactor and solenoid coils generate a reverse spike on turn-off that shortens the life of the output triac, and RC snubbers or MOVs at the load are ordinary practice on this vintage of hardware.
