This is an imperial double cup for tapered roller bearings — a single outer ring machined with two opposed raceways, used to carry two rows of tapered rollers in one housing bore. It is the outer race only: there are no rollers, no cages and no cones in this part. Because the two raceways face away from each other, a double cup gives the wide effective bearing spread of a Timken TDO arrangement, which resists overturning moments far better than two separate single-row bearings squeezed into the same space.
The D suffix on 14276D is what marks it as a double cup rather than a plain single cup. Timken lists it under Double Tapered Cups — Imperial, and publishes two Y factors (Y1 and Y2) instead of the single Y a one-row cup carries, because the two rows share the load differently depending on which way the thrust acts. The corresponding plain single cup, 14276, has the same 2.7170 in outside diameter but is only 0.6250 in wide against 1.5000 in here. They are not interchangeable.
Cup outside diameter (D): 2.7170 in / 69.012 mm
Cup width (C): 1.5000 in / 38.1 mm
Housing backing shoulder diameter (Da): 2.52 in / 64 mm
Maximum housing fillet radius cleared: 0.03 in / 0.8 mm
e factor: 0.38 · Y1: 1.77 · Y2: 2.63 · K factor: 1.53 · geometry factor Cg: 0.0668
Weight: 1.86 lb / 0.843 kg
Load ratings are published against the cone side of a tapered roller bearing, because a rating only exists for a complete cone-and-cup combination. None is quoted here, since a two-row assembly rating on a cup-only listing would mislead.
Two Y factors are the practical signature of a two-row bearing. Y1 = 1.77 applies to the row taking the direct thrust and Y2 = 2.63 to the row that is being unloaded by it, so a two-row calculation is not simply twice a single-row one — the rows must be treated separately or the loaded row will be under-sized. The 1.5000 in width buys the moment stiffness: because the two effective load centres sit far apart inside a single ring, a cantilevered load such as a wheel hub, a mower spindle or an idler pulley is resisted by a couple across the width rather than by clearance in one row. Note also the tight 0.03 in maximum housing fillet radius, which is half what the plain 14276 allows: the housing corner must be sharp or the cup will not seat.
This listing ships 1 Pc — one 14276D double cup. No cones, no rollers, no spacer, no seals. To build the complete two-row bearing you need either two single cones from the 14xxx family or one 14126D double cone.
Press the double cup into the housing with a flat driver spanning the full ring rim, never on a raceway lip, and seat it hard against the shoulder. Keep the housing fillet within 0.03 in. In a TDO mounting the cup is normally the clamped member and the setting is taken up on the cone side, so establish the end play or preload after the cup is fully home. Fit and lubricate both rows — running one row dry in a double cup will fail the whole assembly.
14276D is a standardised imperial double cup, so 14276D cups from Timken, Bower/BCA, Koyo and Federal-Mogul share the same envelope and interchange. The cone side is flexible: the 14xxx family includes 14116, 14117A, 14125A, 14130 and 14137A among others, so one housing bore covers a range of shaft sizes — 14125A, for example, gives a 1.2500 in / 31.750 mm bore, and its K factor of 1.53 matches this cup exactly. The plain 14276 single cup is not an equivalent: same outside diameter, but one raceway and 0.6250 in of width instead of two raceways and 1.5000 in. Order by the full number including the D.
