Product Description

What this part is

A Timken 52393B tapered roller bearing cone — the inner ring complete with its tapered rollers and a machined brass cage, 3-15/16 in bore. The cone is the half of a tapered roller bearing that goes onto the shaft.

Quantity and configuration

1 Pc. Cone only.

Decoding the designation

52393 is the cone number and fixes the bore, the cone width and the raceway angle together. It sits in the same 52000 imperial block as the 52375 and 52400 cones, one bore step up from the 52375 at 3-3/4 in. The trailing B marks a Timken variant of the base cone.

Cage material

Machined brass cage. A brass cage is stiffer and heavier than the pressed steel cage used on most commercial tapered roller cones, tolerates higher temperature and shock loading, and stands up to marginal or contaminated lubrication far better. It is the cage specified for mill, press and heavy drive positions and for oil-mist lubrication.

What these specs mean in practice

The cone assembly is a unit in service: inner ring, rollers and cage are not separable, and the rollers are matched to that ring. The raceway angle built into the number is what divides the load between radial and axial, so the cone is only correct against the cup ground to the same angle.

Fitting notes

The cone goes onto the shaft as a press fit, with the force applied to the inner ring back face only and never through the rollers or the cage. Setting follows once both races are seated, by moving one race axially against the other to establish the intended end play or preload.

Interchange guidance

A cone marked 52393 from another tapered roller bearing maker shares the bore, width and raceway angle. A 52393 supplied with a pressed steel cage is a related part rather than a substitution where the brass cage is the reason for the specification. The 52375 and 52400 are different bores in the same family, so they are related sizes.
