What this part is

An SKF 22213 CKY/W4 double-row spherical roller bearing, 65 mm tapered bore, 120 mm outside diameter, 31 mm width, open on both faces. Two rows of asymmetric barrel rollers run on a common spherical outer raceway, so the inner ring and roller set swivels inside the outer ring and absorbs shaft and housing misalignment without edge-loading the raceways. The bore is a 1:12 taper for adapter-sleeve mounting.

Decoding the designation

The leading 222 is the ISO dimension series and 13 is the bore code, giving 65 mm. K is the 1:12 tapered bore. Y is SKF’s pressed brass window-type cage. The W4 element does not resolve to a published SKF suffix and is carried here as a searchable designation rather than a specification.

Cage material and what it changes

The Y cage is pressed sheet brass, not the pressed steel of the CC and CJ executions of the same bearing. Brass runs against a marginal or contaminated lubricant film more forgivingly than steel, tolerates a higher continuous temperature, and damps cage noise at speed; against that, it is heavier and its basic dynamic load rating is published separately from the steel-cage execution. That is why cage code changes the rating figures on an otherwise identical bearing.

Adapter sleeve requirement

The 1:12 tapered bore mounts on an SKF H2313 adapter sleeve, a separate item and not included. The sleeve presents a straight 60 mm shaft seat, one bore-code step below the 65 mm bearing bore, and is drawn up with a KM13 locknut and an MB13 lockwasher, neither of which is included.

Fitting notes

The sleeve is set on the shaft and the bearing driven up the taper while radial internal clearance is measured with a feeler gauge between the unloaded top roller and the outer raceway. Mounted clearance rather than shaft interference is the controlling figure on a taper-bore spherical roller bearing. The outer ring locates in the housing bore.

Interchange guidance

22213 CKY/W4, 22213CKYW4 and 22213-C-K-Y-W4 are the same designation written three ways. 22213 CCK/W33 is a related size rather than an interchange: it carries a pressed steel cage and a lubrication groove in the outer ring, which are different rating and lubrication conditions. The straight-bore 22213 Y is likewise a related part, since it mounts directly on the shaft with no sleeve. Same-envelope taper-bore brass-cage equivalents in other schemes are FAG 22213-E1-K-M and NSK 22213MKE4, both 65 x 120 x 31 mm, with clearance set independently by each maker.
