What this part is

An RHP 22218W33C3 double-row spherical roller bearing, 90 mm straight bore, 160 mm outside diameter, 40 mm wide. The 22200 series is the narrow section of the spherical roller range. Both roller rows run on one spherical outer raceway, so the inner ring and roller assembly swivel inside the outer ring and the bearing accepts shaft deflection and housing misalignment that would wreck a cylindrical or ball bearing.

Decoding the designation

In the RHP scheme 22218 gives the narrow spherical series and the ISO bore code 18 for 90 mm, W33 is a lubrication groove around the outer ring with three radial feed holes, and C3 is internal radial clearance greater than normal. There is no K in the designation, so the bore is straight and cylindrical. The carton alternates 22218C, 22218CC, 22218CJ and 22218CCJ are cage-code variants of the same section.

What these specs mean in practice

The self-aligning geometry carries heavy radial load and accommodates around two degrees of misalignment, which is why spherical rollers are standard on conveyor pulleys, fans, crushers, vibrating screens and gearbox output shafts. The two roller rows sit at opposing angles, so the bearing takes thrust in both directions as well as radial load. C3 clearance leaves running room for thermal growth of the inner ring relative to the outer and suits a warm or interference-fitted application. The W33 groove and holes deliver grease or oil to the rolling elements straight from the housing.

Fitting notes

Mounting is an interference fit on the shaft journal with the outer ring located in the housing bore, and the fit is developed by heating the bearing or using a hydraulic press rather than by driving on a taper. The three W33 feed holes align with the housing lubrication port on assembly.

Interchange guidance

Direct equivalents on the same envelope and clearance are the SKF 22218 E/C3 and the FAG 22218-E1-C3. A 22218K with a 1:12 taper bore is a related size rather than an interchange, because it mounts on an H2318 adapter sleeve and its shaft seat is 80 mm. A 22218 in normal CN clearance is a separate part, as is a 22218 with a brass cage in place of a pressed steel one.
