| Compatible With Replaces | Related size, NOT an interchange: 22216K, 22216KW33 and 22216 EK share the same 80 x 140 x 33 mm envelope but have a 1:12 tapered bore and require an H316 adapter sleeve on a 70 mm shaft. A straight-bore bearing will not fit a sleeve. 22216W33C3 is the same bearing in C3 clearance rather than Normal. |
| Additional Attributes | Straight cylindrical bore. Non-separable assembly. Self-aligning, accommodates static and dynamic shaft-to-housing misalignment. Bare bearing only — no housing or pillow block supplied. Requires a housing lubrication port aligned with the outer-ring groove to make use of the W33 feature. |
| Item Weight | Approximately 2.17 kg |
| Number Of Rows | 2 |
| Mounting Arrangement | Straight cylindrical bore — mounts directly on an 80 mm shaft, no adapter sleeve required and it will not fit one |

A Koyo double-row spherical roller bearing, 80 mm bore x 140 mm outside diameter x 33 mm wide, in the ISO 222 dimension series. Two rows of barrel rollers share one spherical outer raceway, so the inner ring and roller set swivel bodily inside the outer ring. That self-aligning action absorbs shaft deflection and housing misalignment that would destroy a cylindrical roller or deep groove ball bearing of the same size, while carrying very heavy radial load and thrust in both directions. At this size that capability matters: an 80 mm shaft in a long span will flex under load, and a self-aligning bearing follows it instead of fighting it.
222 — double-row spherical roller bearing, dimension series 22.
16 — bore code for an 80 mm bore.
W33 — annular lubrication groove around the outer ring plus three lubrication holes through it.
There is no K in the designation, so the bore is straight and cylindrical. There is no clearance suffix, so the bearing carries Normal (CN) radial internal clearance.
Check the bore type against your machine before anything else. This bearing mounts directly onto a plain 80 mm shaft seat — it is not a sleeve-mount bearing and it will not fit an H316 adapter sleeve. If the bearing you are replacing came off a sleeve, you want the 22216K tapered-bore version, not this one, and the difference is not something you can work around at assembly.
Normal clearance is the right default for a moderate shaft interference fit in a housing that does not run hot. Where the shaft fit is heavy or the machine runs warm, a C3 version of the same bearing is the correct choice, because the inner ring grows on the shaft and under heat and eats the clearance you started with. Fit the wrong one and the bearing preloads itself, runs hot and fails early; fit C3 where the machine needs tight shaft location and you lose accuracy and gain noise.
The outer-ring groove and three holes let grease or oil be fed straight into the roller rows through the housing rather than relying on lubricant migrating in from the ends. On a bearing this size that is not a nicety — the grease volume is large, the relubrication interval is short under load, and feeding the rollers directly is the single biggest factor in service life. It does require a housing with a lubrication port aligned to the groove; in a plain bore the feature simply goes unused.
Koyo publishes the following for its 22216 in this envelope:
Basic dynamic load rating Cr: 271 kN
Basic static load rating C0r: 271 kN
Fatigue limit load Cu: 30.5 kN
Limiting speed: 3 300 rpm on grease, 4 400 rpm on oil
Calculation factors: e = 0.22, Y0 = 3.00
Mass: approximately 2.17 kg
Sold as 1 Pc. One complete bearing: inner ring with both roller rows and cage, plus the outer ring. Spherical roller bearings ship as a non-separable assembly, so there is no cup, cone or separate ring to source. Because the bore is straight, no adapter sleeve, locknut or lockwasher is needed or included, and no housing or pillow block is supplied.
Mount on the inner ring, never through the rollers. At 80 mm bore this bearing takes a substantial interference fit, so heat it to about 80 – 100 °C above the shaft in an induction heater or a clean oil bath rather than attempting to press or drive it on. Seat the outer ring squarely in the housing bore and let it take up its own alignment before the assembly is drawn down — clamping the outer ring off-neutral during build throws away the self-aligning capability that is the entire reason for choosing a spherical roller bearing. Align the housing lubrication port with the outer-ring groove and purge the groove with grease before the first run.
Dimensionally equivalent straight-bore 22216 bearings include SKF 22216 E, FAG 22216-E1-XL, NSK 22216EAE4, NTN 22216EAW33, NTN-SNR 22216EAW33, Timken 22216EJW33, RHP 22216EJW33 and Nachi 22216EXW33. The lubrication codes differ by brand but describe one feature: W33 on Koyo, SKF, Timken, RHP and Nachi, E4 on NSK, S on FAG, D1 on NTN Japan, B33 on legacy SNR. Two traps to read the right way round — SKF W on its own means the groove and holes are absent, and on SKF and Schaeffler the modern E and E1 designs include them as standard with no suffix at all. The 22216C and 22216CC designations carried on this listing are other manufacturers’ internal-design codes for this same envelope, held here as dimensional cross-references. Any 22216K is the tapered-bore version, requiring an H316 adapter sleeve on a 70 mm shaft: a related size rather than a substitute for this bearing. Koyo is a JTEKT brand.
