The P2B-SCM-300 is a two-bolt PILLOW BLOCK — a base-mounted cast iron housing that bolts down flat and carries the shaft parallel to the mounting surface. It is not a flange unit of any kind. If your shaft needs to pass perpendicular through a bulkhead or gearbox face, you want a Dodge F2B or F4B flange block instead.
The designation decodes cleanly: P2B is the two-bolt pillow block housing, S is setscrew shaft locking, C is cast iron, M is medium duty, and 300 is the 3 in bore. Dodge’s own stock number for it is 126822.
Capacity and geometry, from Dodge’s published data: 17,407 lbf radial dynamic and 13,102 lbf radial static, on a medium-duty 216-series insert. Base to shaft centreline is 3-1/2 in, mounting bolt centres run 8-1/2 to 9-1/2 in, and the housing measures 11-3/4 in long x 6.97 in high with a 2.38 in width across the base. Maximum speed is 1,000 rpm — this is a load-carrying block for conveyors and heavy shafting, not a high-speed unit, and that speed limit is the specification most often overlooked when people substitute on bore size alone.
Shaft locking is by setscrews through the extended inner ring. That is the fast, serviceable option: it drops straight onto a plain, undersized commercial shaft with no shoulder, no retaining ring and no interference fit, and it comes off again without a press. The trade-off against an eccentric or concentric collar is that setscrews can loosen and can burr the shaft under reversing or shock loading, so torque them properly and reconsider the locking style if the drive reverses.
The unit is relubricatable through a grease fitting in the housing, so it can be maintained in service rather than run to failure. It is a non-expansion (fixed) block, which means it locates the shaft axially. On a long shaft that grows with temperature, use this as the fixed end and put an expansion unit at the far end — two non-expansion blocks on a hot shaft will preload themselves to death.
