A Schaeffler INA machined needle roller bearing with a separable inner ring: 10 mm bore, 22 mm outside diameter, 16 mm wide. The proportions are the point — only 6 mm of radial wall, but 16 mm of axial length. That is a deliberately long roller complement squeezed into a minimal radial envelope.
The result is 11.4 kN of dynamic radial capacity from a bearing that sits in a 22 mm bore. No ball bearing at a 10 mm bore comes close in the same space. This is what needle rollers are for: load capacity where there is no room.
NKI: machined needle roller bearing with inner ring, INA’s NKI machined series. The corresponding NK designation is the same bearing supplied without an inner ring.
10: bore, 10 mm.
/16: width, 16 mm. The two numbers separated by a slash are bore and width; the outside diameter follows from the series.
XL: Schaeffler’s X-life performance class, with tighter geometry and surface finish, raising both the calculated rating and the achievable life.
NKI or NK — the inner ring decides whether it fits the shaft:
This is the same fork in the road that runs through the whole needle roller family. An NK bearing has no inner ring: its needles run directly on the shaft, so the shaft must be a hardened, ground bearing raceway held to bearing tolerance and surface finish. An NKI bearing includes a hardened, ground inner ring, so it will run on an ordinary machined shaft.
NK9/16-XL, NK16/16-XL, NK17/16-XL and NK20/16-XL appear on the same catalogue pages as this part, all 16 mm wide, all easily mistaken for it. This is the NKI10/16-XL — inner ring included and separable from the cage-and-outer-ring assembly, which also makes blind installations easier, since the inner ring goes onto the shaft and the outer assembly into the housing before the two are brought together.
Bore (d): 10 mm, inner ring included.
Outside diameter (D): 22 mm.
Width (C): 16 mm.
Dynamic radial load rating Cr: 11,400 N / 11.4 kN.
Static radial load rating C0r: 11,500 N / 11.5 kN.
Reference speed: 16,400 r/min.
Limiting speed: 24,600 r/min.
Internal clearance: normal.
Cage material: sheet steel.
Closure: open, no seals.
Number of rows: 1.
Schaeffler publishes two speeds and they answer different questions. The reference speed of 16,400 r/min is the thermally permissible speed: the point at which heat generated inside the bearing balances the heat the mounting can carry away under Schaeffler’s reference conditions. The limiting speed of 24,600 r/min is the kinematic ceiling set by the cage and the roller set. Running between the two is possible where the lubrication and the cooling are designed for it.
Note the near-identical dynamic and static ratings — 11.4 kN against 11.5 kN. That is unusual and informative: it means this bearing is about as good at holding a standing or shock load as it is at rotating under load, which is exactly what suits a linkage pin, a cam follower pivot or an oscillating joint. Those are its natural applications, and they are positions where the static rating is what governs.
Sold individually and supplied complete: outer ring, needle-and-cage assembly and the separable inner ring. Being open rather than sealed, lubrication and contamination exclusion are the housing’s job.

Related builds: NKI10/20-XL (same bore and outside diameter, 20 mm wide), NKI12/16-XL (12 mm bore), and NK9/16-XL, NK16/16-XL, NK17/16-XL and NK20/16-XL, which are the inner-ringless builds and suit a shaft that is itself a hardened, ground raceway. Same-envelope equivalents at 10 × 22 × 16 mm are catalogued by IKO, NTN, NSK and Koyo under the ISO NKI numbering.
