A single row cylindrical roller bearing of NJ design, 110 mm bore, 200 mm outside diameter, 38 mm width, with a machined brass cage and C3 internal clearance. Line-contact cylindrical rollers give a radial load rating several times that of a ball bearing in the same envelope.
In the FAG scheme NJ is the design carrying two integral ribs on the outer ring and a single rib on the inner ring. 2 is the dimension series and 22 the ISO bore code, five times twenty-two giving the 110 mm bore. E is the reinforced X-life design with an increased roller complement and load rating. M1 is a machined brass cage in a FAG design variant. C3 is radial internal clearance greater than normal.
The single inner ring rib is what distinguishes NJ from N and NU. The roller ends bear against that rib in one direction only, so an NJ carries radial load plus light-to-moderate axial load in a single direction and locates the shaft that way. N and NU designs, with ribs on one ring only, are non-locating and take no thrust at all; NUP, with a rib and a loose flange ring on the inner, locates in both directions. Two NJ bearings mounted opposed give two-direction location. Substituting an N or NU for an NJ removes the axial constraint and lets the shaft walk.
Line contact spreads load along the roller length rather than at a point, so the radial rating and the stiffness are high and the section is compact for the load carried. The trade is sensitivity to misalignment between the shaft seat and the housing bore, because a skewed roller concentrates load at one end of its contact line. The 2 dimension series is the light section for a 110 mm bore, so this is a shallower and lighter bearing than an NJ322 of the same bore.
A machined brass cage handles high speed, elevated temperature and shock loading, and holds its form under sustained load where a polyamide cage would be limited to roughly 120 °C. C3 clearance is greater than normal, offsetting the clearance lost to an interference fit on the shaft and to the inner ring running hotter than the housing.
1 Pc. Straight cylindrical bore. Separable design: the outer ring with the roller and cage assembly parts from the ribbed inner ring. Open on both faces — no seals, shields, snap ring or outer ring lubrication holes, and no separate HJ angle ring.
Other makers’ NJ222E cylindrical roller bearings at the same clearance and cage class are the interchange. An N222E or NU222E shares the 110 x 200 x 38 envelope but is non-locating, and an NUP222E locates in both directions, so both are related sizes rather than substitutions. An NH222E is an NJ222E paired with a separate HJ222E angle ring, which is not part of this listing.
