An NTN 6917ZZ single-row deep groove ball bearing, 85 mm bore, 120 mm outside diameter, 18 mm wide, with pressed steel shields on both faces. The 69 series is the extra-light or thin-section dimension series, so the ring section is thin relative to the bore — 17.5 mm of radial section across a 85 mm bore. The bearing takes radial load with moderate thrust capacity in both directions.
69 is the ISO extra-light dimension series, which the same bearing carries as 61917 in full ISO form. 17 is the bore code, giving 85 mm at five millimetres per unit. ZZ is a pressed steel shield on each face. No clearance suffix appears, which means CN, normal radial internal clearance.
A shield is a pressed steel disc snapped into a groove in the outer ring with a small running clearance at the inner ring land. It is non-contact, so it adds no friction torque and no speed penalty, and it retains grease and excludes coarse particles. A contact seal, which NTN codes LLU, presses a rubber lip against the inner ring and excludes fine dust and liquid at the cost of friction and a lower speed limit. Shields and seals are not interchangeable specifications for the same duty.
A thin-section 69-series bearing buys shaft and housing space: the same 85 mm bore in the medium 62 series needs a 150 mm housing bore against 120 mm here. The trade is capacity, since the thinner rings and smaller balls carry less load and are more sensitive to housing distortion. Shielded and greased for life, the bearing suits sealed-for-life positions where relubrication is not planned.
1 Pc. Complete bearing, shielded both faces, factory greased. No snap ring and no snap-ring groove.
Thin-section rings transmit housing form error directly into the raceway, so the housing bore and shaft seat want to be round and to the tolerance for the fit class. The bearing mounts with force applied to the ring being fitted, never through the ball complement, and the shields are not removed for cleaning since the grease charge is set at manufacture.
The ISO designation is 61917-2Z, so another maker’s 61917-2Z, 6917ZZ or 6917-2Z shielded thin-section deep groove ball bearing of the same 18 mm width is a genuine interchange. 6917LLU and 6917-2RS are related sizes, not substitutions: they fit the same seat but are contact-sealed with different friction and speed limits. 6917 is the open form, 6917Z has a single shield with the opposite face open, and 6017 shares the 85 mm bore in the heavier 60 series with a 130 mm outside diameter.
