Decoding the designation

62 is the ISO light dimension series for deep groove ball bearings. 01 is the bore code, which in the 00 to 03 block does not follow the five-millimetre rule — 00 is 10 mm, 01 is 12 mm, 02 is 15 mm and 03 is 17 mm. T is the fabric-reinforced phenolic laminate cage. P5 is ISO tolerance class 5, equivalent to ABEC 5. No closure suffix appears, so the bearing is open on both faces, and no clearance suffix appears, so radial internal clearance is CN, normal.

What these specs mean in practice

P5 tightens bore and outside diameter tolerance and, more importantly, tightens radial and axial runout of the assembled bearing. That is what buys a quiet, low-vibration shaft and repeatable position, which is why the class turns up on instrument spindles, small grinding heads, encoder shafts and precision gearheads rather than on general machinery. The phenolic cage is light, self-lubricating and quiet, and suits high speed with oil or light grease; its temperature ceiling is lower than a pressed steel or brass cage, which is the trade for the speed and the running smoothness. Fitting notes

A standard 6201 is a related size, not a substitution, because it is normal class and its runout is not controlled to P5. 6201-2Z and 6201-2RSR fit the same seat but are shielded and sealed, and 6201-T-P53 is the same bearing with C3 clearance added — each a different part.
