MRC 208RDU single-row angular contact ball bearings, universally matched for paired mounting. Each bearing is 40 mm bore, 80 mm outside diameter, 18 mm width, and the pair stacks to 36 mm. Straight bore, 15° contact angle.
The 200 series is the light angular contact dimension series and the bore code 08 denotes 40 mm, the bore code multiplied by five. In the MRC scheme R identifies the R-type precision angular contact design, which MRC builds to a 15° contact angle, and DU marks a duplex universal bearing: ground at the factory so that two can be set immediately adjacent to each other without a spacer.
A 15° contact angle favours speed and radial capacity over axial stiffness, which is why it is the machine tool spindle standard. MRC publishes 41 kN dynamic and 28 kN static capacity for a single 208R, with an 18000 rpm grease speed rating and 30000 rpm on oil. Mounted as a pair back to back or face to face, the dynamic rating of the set is 1.62 times the single-bearing figure and the static rating is twice it.
Universal grinding allows a back-to-back, face-to-face or tandem arrangement from the same two bearings. Back to back and face to face give a light preload and take thrust in both directions; back to back sets the load lines apart and gives the stiffer response to moment load. Tandem shares thrust in one direction between both rows.
Two pieces, one matched pair.
Matched sets carry a V marking across the outer ring cylindrical surface. The V is aligned to keep the bearings in their ground order, and its point indicates the direction in which the axial load acts on the centre ring. MRC recommends a js4 shaft seat and a JS5 housing bore for a locating pair.
A 7208 C at 15°, universally matched, shares both the envelope and the angle. A 7208 B is a related size: the same 40 x 80 x 18 mm envelope at 40°, which trades speed for axial capacity.
