What these specs mean in practice

A 15° contact angle is the speed-biased choice in this family. The shallow load line keeps ball centrifugal and gyroscopic effects low, so a 15° bearing reaches a higher limiting speed and runs cooler than a 25° bearing of the same envelope, giving up axial capacity and axial stiffness in exchange.

The heavy preload grade is the defining spec on this piece and it points the bearing at a different job from the more common light-preload stock. Preload removes internal play, fixes the contact angle and makes axial position and runout repeatable, and increasing it raises both radial and axial stiffness. P4 holds bore, outside diameter, width and running accuracy to single-digit micron limits, which is what makes the piece usable in a ground spindle stack.
