What this part is

A double-row spherical roller bearing on the 22214 envelope — 70 mm bore, 125 mm outside diameter, 31 mm width, built with C4 internal clearance. Both rows of barrel rollers run against a single spherical raceway ground into the outer ring, so the inner ring and roller assembly can swivel bodily inside the outer ring. That is what makes this family the default on long shafts, fabricated frames and any drive where the two bearing seats cannot be guaranteed coaxial.

Decoding the designation

222 – ISO dimension series for spherical roller bearings.
14 – bore reference number; 14 × 5 = 70 mm bore.
CC – single-piece steel window cage with an inner-ring centre guide rib. The same cage is coded CJ and CCJ in Torrington and Fafnir lineage nomenclature.
C4 – radial internal clearance one group wider than C3, which is itself wider than normal.

What these specs mean in practice

C4 is why you would order this bearing specifically, and it is a fit decision rather than an upgrade. Internal clearance gets eaten in service by a heavy interference fit on the shaft, which expands the inner ring, and by a hot inner ring running against a cooler housing, which expands it further. Where both effects are significant — kiln and dryer rolls, hot fans, heavily loaded crusher and mill shafts — a normal or C3 bearing reaches operating temperature with nothing left and preloads itself into an early failure. C4 leaves headroom. In a cool, lightly fitted machine the same C4 bearing runs slack instead, letting rollers skid through the unloaded arc and scuff the raceway. Fit the class the machine was designed around.

There is no K in the designation, so the bore is cylindrical: it presses straight onto a plain 70 mm shaft seat with an interference fit, no adapter sleeve and no drive-up measurement. There is also no W33, so plan to relubricate from the side of the housing or through the shaft rather than through the outer ring.
