What this part is

This is an SKF NU 213 MA/P6 single-row cylindrical roller bearing with a 65 mm bore, 120 mm outside diameter and 23 mm width. The rollers run in line contact with the raceways rather than point contact, which is what gives a cylindrical roller bearing its high radial capacity for the envelope.

Decoding the designation

NU is the non-locating design: the inner ring has no guiding flanges, so the roller set can move axially along it. Bore code 13 gives 65 mm. MA specifies a machined brass cage. P6 is the precision class, equivalent to ABEC 3, one step above normal.

Axial location and why the design suffix matters

An NU bearing carries radial load only and provides no axial location in either direction. It is used as the free bearing in a shaft arrangement, with a separate bearing elsewhere doing the locating. The related NJ design adds one inner ring flange and locates in one direction, and the NUP design locates in both. Fitting an NU where an NJ or NUP belongs leaves the shaft free to move axially.

What these specs mean in practice

Line contact gives a cylindrical roller bearing substantially higher radial load capacity and stiffness than a ball bearing of the same size, at the cost of any meaningful axial capability and with less tolerance of misalignment. The machined brass cage raises the usable speed and temperature ceiling over a pressed steel cage and handles shock loading better. P6 precision tightens bore, outside diameter and running accuracy over a normal-class bearing, which reduces runout in the assembled shaft.

Fitting notes

An NU bearing separates: the outer ring with the roller and cage assembly comes away from the inner ring, so the inner ring can be mounted on the shaft and the outer ring in the housing independently, then brought together. Mounting force is applied to the ring being fitted, and the inner ring interference fit is normally made by even heating.

Interchange guidance

Same-spec equivalents are FAG NU213-E-M1-P6 and NSK NU213MP6, both 65 x 120 x 23 mm NU-design cylindrical rollers with a machined brass cage at P6. An NJ213 or NUP213 shares the envelope but locates the shaft axially, and a normal-class NU213 differs in precision; those are related sizes rather than substitutions.
