An SRO 22209 double–row spherical roller bearing, 45 mm bore x 85 mm outside diameter x 23 mm wide, straight cylindrical bore, with a machined brass cage. Two rows of symmetrical barrel rollers run on a single concave outer raceway, so the inner ring, rollers and cage swivel as one assembly inside the outer ring. That is what makes the bearing self–aligning: heavy radial load, axial load in both directions, and tolerance of shaft deflection and housing misalignment that would destroy a ball bearing. Sold as 1 Pc.
222 — ISO dimension series for the wide, high–capacity double–row spherical roller family.
09 — bore size code, 45 mm bore.
MB — one–piece machined brass cage, guided on the inner ring.
HL — the SRO internal design code, carried exactly as marked on the ring and carton and searchable as written.
No clearance suffix, so the bearing carries normal radial internal clearance rather than C3 or C4.
A machined brass cage is the reason to want this build. Brass takes shock and vibration that cracks a polyamide cage, it has none of the roughly 120 °C ceiling that limits glass–fibre reinforced polyamide, and it copes with marginal lubrication far better than pressed steel. Guiding the cage on the inner ring rather than the rollers keeps it stable at speed and under load reversal. The trade is weight and cost, which is why brass cages get specified rather than defaulted to.
Normal clearance is the right call for a position that runs close to ambient with standard shaft and housing fits. If your machine originally carried a C3 or C4 bearing — a hot fan, a dryer roll, a heavy press fit — do not substitute normal clearance, because the inner ring will grow in service and preload the rollers.
The straight cylindrical bore means this one mounts directly on the shaft. No adapter sleeve is involved; that applies only to the K and K30 tapered–bore versions of the same envelope.
Bore 45 mm, outside diameter 85 mm, width 23 mm.
Two rows of symmetrical spherical (barrel) rollers; one–piece machined brass cage, inner–ring guided.
Straight cylindrical bore. Open, no seals or shields.
Normal radial internal clearance.
Envelope reference capacity for the 22209 size: SKF 22209 E, dynamic 102 kN, static 98 kN, limiting speed 10 000 rpm; FAG 22209–E1–XL, dynamic 104 kN, static 99 kN, limiting speed 10 100 rpm. Cage and internal design shift the rating, so treat these as the figure for the envelope.
Approximate mass 0.6 kg.
One bearing per order — 1 Pc. A complete non–separable bearing ships: outer ring, both roller rows, brass cage and inner ring. No adapter sleeve, lock nut or housing is included, and a cylindrical–bore bearing needs none of them.
Press only on the ring taking the interference fit; never drive mounting force through the rollers. Because the bearing self–aligns, the housing bore does not have to be dead square to the shaft, but the outer ring still needs support across its full width or the roller ends will edge–load. Where the shaft must be free to grow, let this outer ring float in the housing and let the other bearing on the shaft locate it.
The 45 x 85 x 23 spherical roller envelope is standardised, so SKF 22209 E, FAG 22209–E1–XL–M, NSK 22209EAKE4, NTN 22209EAD1, Nachi 22209EXW33, Koyo 22209RHRW33 and Timken 22209EJW33 all fit the same seat. The brass–cage counterparts are the closest match here — FAG M, MA and MB codes, SKF CA and CAC. Pressed–steel and polyamide–cage parts on the same envelope are related builds with different temperature and shock capability, not exact equivalents. Match clearance too: this one is normal clearance, so a C3 or C4 part with the same base number is a related size rather than a replacement. SRO was a Swiss precision bearing maker and the range is long out of production, which is why cross–referencing to a current maker is the practical route to a second one.
