An INA RT622 axial cylindrical roller bearing — a thrust bearing, not a radial one. It measures 2-5/8 in bore by 4-11/32 in outside diameter by 1 in overall stack height, in INA’s inch RT series. The rolling elements are cylindrical rollers laid radially in a flat plane between two flat raceway washers, so the bearing carries load along the shaft axis and takes no radial load at all.
An RT-series axial bearing is a stack of three elements: a shaft washer, a housing washer, and a cylindrical roller and cage assembly running between them. The washers are flat, hardened and ground on their raceway faces and have no lips or ribs. The 1 in figure is the assembled height of the complete stack, and the 2-5/8 in bore figure is the washer bore, which clears the shaft rather than gripping it.
Cylindrical roller thrust bearings carry very high axial load in a short axial length, well above a ball thrust bearing of the same envelope, because line contact replaces point contact. The trade is speed: the rollers scrub against the flat raceways at a velocity that varies across their length, so limiting speed is low and continuous oil supply matters. Thrust is taken in one direction only, and a second bearing or a shoulder handles the return load. Radial location comes from a separate radial bearing, never from this one.
1 Pc. One RT622 axial bearing, in inch dimensions rather than metric. The equivalent metric construction is INA’s 811-series, where the pieces carry separate numbers — K811.. for the roller and cage set, WS811.. for the shaft washer, GS811.. for the housing washer.
The two washers sit square to the shaft axis, and the squareness of the housing and shaft shoulders governs whether all the rollers share the load. The washer bores are clearance fits on the shaft. A minimum axial load keeps the roller set from skidding, and axial bearings of this type are mounted with the roller cage centred between the washers before the assembly is closed up.
Torrington and Timken carried the same inch RT numbering for axial cylindrical roller bearings, so an RT622 from those makers is the same envelope and construction. The number 5916267 is a distributor and OEM stock number for the same part. Metric 811-series and 812-series axial bearings cover different bore and height combinations and are related sizes rather than interchanges, as are the AXK needle-roller axial cages, which use needles instead of cylindrical rollers and have a lower rating.
