Decoding the designation

73 is the ISO dimension series and 14 is the bore code, giving a 70 mm bore. B is a 40° contact angle. XL marks the X-life uprated execution, a tightened raceway and surface specification that lifts rating life over the standard part. TVP is the glass-fibre reinforced polyamide cage. UO is the universal design: the rings are ground so that two bearings paired back-to-back or face-to-face come out at zero clearance and zero preload, and any number of them can be arranged in tandem.

What these specs mean in practice

A 40° contact angle is the high-thrust end of the angular contact range. It carries substantially more axial load in one direction than a 15° or 25° bearing of the same envelope, and gives up limiting speed and radial rigidity in exchange. Load ratings are 118 kN dynamic and 90 kN static, with a limiting speed of 6000 rpm. Single-row angular contact bearings take axial load in one direction only, so they run in opposed pairs or against a second bearing that takes the return thrust.

The TVP polyamide cage is light and quiet and tolerates momentary misalignment better than pressed steel, and its continuous service ceiling is 120 °C. Above that a brass cage variant (7314-B-MP) is the equivalent envelope in a higher-temperature execution.

SKF 7314 BECBM and NSK 7314B are the same 70x150x35 mm 40° envelope and are direct functional equivalents, with cage material differing between makers. A 7314-B-XL-MP is the brass-cage execution of this same bearing. Parts numbered 7314 without the B letter, and any 7314 in a C or E execution, carry a different contact angle and are related sizes rather than interchanges.
