A single-row deep groove ball bearing in the 69 (extra-light, thin-section) dimension series: 60 mm bore, 85 mm outside diameter, 13 mm wide. Open on both sides, with C3 greater-than-normal radial internal clearance. The 69 series is the slim-wall family, with 12.5 mm of radial section carrying a 60 mm shaft against 25 mm on a standard 6212 of the same bore.
6: single-row deep groove ball bearing.
9: dimension series 69, the extra-light thin-section width and section.
12: bore code, 12 x 5 = 60 mm bore.
C3: radial internal clearance greater than normal.
No closure suffix: open both sides. Z or ZZ would be metal shields and 2RS rubber contact seals.
The bearing is equivalent in envelope to the ISO designation 61912, which many catalogues use in place of 6912. Both refer to the same 60 x 85 x 13 mm size.
A thin section buys space and weight. It lets a large shaft or a hollow shaft pass through a housing that could never accept a standard-series bearing, and it keeps the assembly light.
What it costs is load capacity and rigidity: there is less material and a smaller ball complement than a 6212, so speed and load ratings do not carry across between the two. A 6912 and a 6212 are chosen for different reasons.
C3 clearance suits an interference fit on the inner ring or a shaft that runs hotter than its housing, both common on the robot joints, rotary tables and slim gear stages where 69-series bearings live. A CN bearing in that duty loses its clearance to thermal growth and runs hot. A C3 in a cool, lightly loaded application can be noisier.
Because the bearing is open, it arrives without service grease and takes lubrication on assembly plus housing sealing. It is not interchangeable with a sealed 6912-2RS, which comes pre-greased and excludes contamination on its own.
Bore: 60 mm.
Outside diameter: 85 mm.
Width: 13 mm.
Radial section wall: 12.5 mm each side.
Rows: 1.
Closure: open, both sides.
Internal clearance: C3, greater than normal.
Material: through-hardened bearing steel.
Sold as 1 piece, one open bearing. No shields, no seals, no snap ring.
Thin-section rings distort easily, so mounting force is carried by the ring being fitted.
Housing and shaft roundness matter more here than on a heavy-section bearing, because a slim outer ring takes the shape of its bore.
Same-envelope genuine interchanges include NSK 6912 C3 and 61912 C3, SKF 61912/C3, FAG 61912-C3, NTN 6912C3 and Koyo 6912C3. A 6912-2RS or 6912ZZ is a different closure and a plain 6912 or 6912 C2 a different clearance class; those are related sizes rather than drop-ins. The suffix SR1-2 appearing on some carton markings for this item is carried as a searchable reference.
