What these specs mean in practice

Retroreflective sensing buys you long range and shiny-object tolerance for one sensor’s worth of wiring — only one end needs power — but it depends absolutely on the reflector staying aligned and clean. A drifting or dirty reflector reads as an intermittent sensor. The output is NPN (sinking), which is the point to check before ordering: an input card expecting PNP sourcing will not see this sensor switch. Light-on means the output is active when the beam is received, so a beam break de-energises the output — the fail-safe direction for many guard and presence applications, and the opposite of a dark-on unit.

Installation and setup notes

Mount so the optical face and the reflector are square to each other, then set the sensitivity potentiometer with the beam clear and confirm reliable switching with the target in place. Being a fixed-cable version, plan the cable route before fitting — there is no connector to break the run at the sensor.
