Note how the series number works: the 3 in VRU3180 fixes the 60 mm width and 28 mm height for every length in the family, and only the table length and stroke change. The shorter VRU3055 in the same series is 55 mm long with 30 mm of travel on the identical cross-section. If you are matching an existing installation, the width and height will look right on any series-3 table – it is the length and stroke you have to get correct.

What a cross roller table is, and the trade-offs:
Crossed cylindrical rollers run in ground V-grooves between a machined table and a machined bed. THK describes the design as a high-rigidity, high-precision, compact finite linear guide unit. Against a recirculating LM guide:

Rollers give line contact, not point contact. Substantially more load capacity and rigidity in the same envelope, and very little elastic deflection under load – the reason metrology and optical stages use them.Crossed orientation means one row carries load and moment in all four directions; no second rail is needed to resist lift or side thrust.Finite stroke. There is no roller return path, so travel is hard-limited to 105 mm. Over-travelling damages the roller retainer – fit hard stops if the axis can be driven past its limits.Pre-assembled and pre-adjusted. Table, bed, rollers and retainer come as one matched unit. Bolt it down and it is aligned, which is exactly why these get specified where setup labour matters more than the price of the part.

Specifications left blank, and why

Basic dynamic and static load ratings, permissible moment, accuracy grade and roller count are not stated here. THK publishes them per size, and the sources accessible for VRU3180 give dimensions only. Roller count scales with table length, so figures from another length in the same series do not transfer. Request the THK VRU3180 data if load capacity or accuracy class is a design constraint rather than assume from a sibling.

Fitting notes

Bolt to a flat, clean, burr-free surface – a cross roller table is rigid enough to transmit rather than absorb a twisted mounting face, so mounting flatness shows up directly in your travel accuracy. Do not separate the table from the bed; the rollers and retainer are matched and pre-loaded as an assembly. Grease is factory applied and the unit is not intended to run dry.
