A SICK DME5000-123, part number 1025249 — a long-range laser distance measuring sensor with a DeviceNet interface. It measures true distance to a target by time-of-flight and reports it continuously over the fieldbus. This is a measuring device, not a switching photoelectric sensor: it outputs a distance value, not an on/off state.
Earlier copy described this as a photoelectric sensor. The DME5000 is a laser distance measuring device — a different product class with a fieldbus output rather than a switched output, used for positioning, crane and gantry travel, storage-and-retrieval machines and level measurement over long spans.
DME — SICK Distance Measuring Equipment (laser time-of-flight family)5000 — the long-range series-123 — the interface and configuration variant: DeviceNet1025249 — SICK part number for this exact configuration; also written 1-025-249
Type: laser distance measuring sensor, time-of-flightMeasuring range: 0.15 m to 300 m against a reflector; approx. 0.15 m to 70 m on diamond-grade reflective tapeInterface: DeviceNetOperating temperature: −10 °C to +55 °C as supplied; wider ranges require the optional heating or cooling housingPerformance: fast measurement cycle, high repeatability, designed for continuous positioning dutySICK part number: 1025249 (1-025-249)Origin: Germany (SICK nameplate)
The 300 m figure assumes a proper SICK reflector on the target. On plain reflective tape you should plan for roughly 70 m, and on an unprepared surface less again — range is a function of the target, not just the sensor. The interface is the other thing to check before ordering: this is the DeviceNet variant, so it will not drop into a PROFIBUS, SSI or analogue-output installation. Other DME5000 part numbers cover those interfaces. The −10 °C lower limit rules out unheated outdoor winter service without the heater housing, which is a separate accessory.
Mount rigidly and align the beam to the reflector over the full travel, not just at one position — long-range measurement is unforgiving of a bracket that flexes. Set the DeviceNet node address and baud rate to match the network before commissioning, and configure the measurement window and output scaling for the application. Keep the optical window clean; contamination shortens usable range before it causes an outright fault.
Sensor only. No reflector or reflective tape, no mounting bracket or alignment kit, no heating or cooling housing, no DeviceNet cordset, drop cable or terminating resistors, no power supply, no configuration software and no documentation.
Sold as one sensor.
DME5000-123, DME5000123 and part number 1025249 / 1-025-249 are the same sensor. Other DME5000 variants are the same optics with a different interface and are not drop-in equivalents on a network — DME5000-111 (1022949) is a different configuration in the same series. Match the interface variant to the control system, then the range class.
