Correcting the source data

Earlier copy described this as a plug-in memory card with storage capacity for user programs. It is neither. This is a rack-resident CPU-rack module, not removable media, and the memory it holds is system data — the Status Table, Override Table, Transition Table and Scratchpad. Your ladder program lives on the separate Logic Memory modules, and register data lives on the Register Memory module IC600CB508. If you are looking for somewhere to store a program, this is not the part.

What this module actually does

Two jobs, and the second one catches people out. First, it holds Table and Scratchpad memory in battery-backed CMOS so I/O status, overrides and transition states survive a power failure. Second, it carries a DIP-switch array by which you declare to the CPU how much Logic Memory is installed, in 2K increments, and in which of the Logic Memory board slots (A, B, C, D) it sits. A Model 600 CPU uses slot A only; a Model 6000 CPU accepts up to 32K of Logic Memory across the four slots. Get those switches wrong and the CPU addresses memory that is not there.

Installation and setup notes

Set the DIP-switch array to match your Logic Memory fit before inserting the module, and use a consecutive addressing scheme starting from slot A. No more than 8K (four 2K increments) may be assigned to any one Logic Memory slot. Do not change these switches with a program already loaded into logic memory — GE warns this will cause the user program to run out of sequence, with the equipment damage and injury risk that implies. Connect the two-pin lithium battery lead to one of the male jacks beneath the battery before fitting the top board cover, and use the extraction/insertion tool furnished with the CPU. Expect to clear parity errors at first power-up per Chapter 2 of the Series Six Programming Manual, GEK-25362. These are CMOS devices: handle by the edges with the covers on. Never short the battery contacts and never attempt to recharge the cell.

Quantity and configuration

One module. The CPU rack, CPU power supply, Logic Memory modules, Register Memory module, extraction tool, programming terminal and a fresh lithium battery are not included — on a legacy board of this age, budget for a replacement cell.
