IF01D interface module for the Fanuc I/O Unit MODEL A rack – the fibre-optic link card that connects the I/O base to a System 11 or 15A CNC via COP2 and COP4. It is the rack’s communication head, not an input or output module, and carries no I/O points. Sold as 1 module.

The Fanuc IF01D interface module for the I/O Unit MODEL A. It occupies the leftmost slot of an I/O base unit and is the rack’s communication head: the CNC talks to it over a plastic-fibre optical link, and it in turn drives the backplane that the input, output and analog modules sit on. It maps those modules into the CNC’s PMC address space and handles the serial scan. It is fitted on Fanuc System 11 and Series 15A controls.
Despite being widely catalogued as an “I/O module”, the IF01D has no input or output points of its own. It provides no terminals to wire field devices to. If you need points, a DI/DO module plugs in alongside it. What the IF01D does is make the whole rack visible to the CNC — without it, none of the I/O modules in that base work at all.
A03B — Fanuc I/O Unit product family (bases, interface modules and I/O modules).
0801 — the I/O Unit MODEL A group.
C104 — the specific unit within that group: IF01D interface module.
IF01D — Fanuc’s functional model name, marked on the module face; IF = interface.
Type: interface / communication module for I/O Unit MODEL A.
Model name: IF01D.
Order code: A03B-0801-C104.
Host link: plastic optical fibre, connectors COP2 and COP4 on the module face.
Host controls: Fanuc System 11 and Series 15A.
I/O points provided by this module: none — it is the rack interface.
Format: plug-in module for a Fanuc I/O Unit MODEL A base unit.
Because everything in the rack talks through this one card, an IF01D fault presents as the whole I/O base going dead — many I/O alarms at once, or the CNC reporting no communication with the I/O unit — rather than as a single lost input. That makes it a sensible module to hold as a spare on a machine you cannot afford to have down. The fibre-optic link is also why these installations tolerate long cabinet-to-machine runs and electrically noisy environments; there is no copper signal path to pick up interference.
Sold as one IF01D interface module.
Module only. No I/O base unit, rack or backplane. No input, output or analog I/O modules. No optical fibre cables for COP2 or COP4. No terminal blocks, connector kits or wiring. No power supply for the base unit. No CNC control board or axis card. No documentation.
A03B-0801-C104, A03B0801C104 and A03B 0801 C104 are the same order code, also listed as IF01D. Other C-suffix units in the A03B-0801 group are different functions — base units, DI/DO modules, analog modules — and are not substitutes. Later I/O Link and I/O Unit MODEL B interface modules serve the same purpose on newer controls but use a different protocol and are not interchangeable with a System 11 or 15A MODEL A rack. Fanuc I/O hardware is proprietary with no cross-brand equivalent.
