A Fanuc I/O Unit-MODEL A digital output module, model designation AOD16D. It carries 16 output points switching a 12 or 24 V DC load at up to 0.5 A per point, in source configuration, so each output supplies positive volts to its load and the load returns to the common negative. The module is a plug-in board for a Fanuc I/O Unit-MODEL A base unit and is the output stage between the CNC or PMC and the machine’s solenoid valves, relays and indicators.
A03B is Fanuc’s own ordering prefix for I/O Unit and peripheral hardware — Fanuc’s scheme, distinct from the GE Fanuc IC6xx numbering that is sometimes confused with it. 0819 is the I/O Unit-MODEL A module group. In the suffix, the leading letter is the significant field: C designates the printed circuit module on its own, where a J in the same position designates a complete assembled unit. 154 is the individual module. The model name stamped on the board decodes separately: A for I/O Unit-MODEL A, O for output, D for DC, and 16 for the point count — hence AOD16D. A trailing #D seen on some cartons is a Fanuc drawing or CE revision marker, not a different module.
Half an amp per point is a solenoid and interposing-relay rating, not a motor rating, and the useful question on a retrofit is the simultaneous-on figure rather than the per-point one: sixteen points all energised is a different thermal case from two. Source-type output matters more than it looks. A source module and a sink module are not interchangeable on the same field wiring, because the common rail changes polarity; swapping one for the other leaves every load either permanently off or permanently energised through its return. The 12 to 24 V range covers both the common Fanuc machine control voltage and legacy 12 V pilot circuits on the same board.
1 Pc. Output module only. No base unit, no I/O Unit-MODEL A rack or interface module, no field connector or terminal block, no flat cable, no 24 V load supply and no mounting hardware.
The module plugs into a slot on a Fanuc I/O Unit-MODEL A base unit, which is what carries the field terminations and the link back to the interface module. Addressing follows the slot position and is declared in the I/O Link assignment, so a module moved to a different slot is a software change as well as a mechanical one. The board is approximately 130 mm long, 130 mm high and 35 mm thick.
Other AOD-series modules in the same 0819 group differ in point count, voltage or output polarity — those are related modules and not substitutions, since polarity and point count both change the field wiring. Any module supplied under an A03B-0819-J number is a complete unit rather than a bare module and includes hardware not present here. Fanuc I/O Unit-MODEL B modules use an entirely different base and are not compatible.
