A 15° contact angle is the high-speed end of the range: low centrifugal ball loading, low heat generation and a high permissible DN value, with less thrust capacity and axial stiffness than a 25° or 40° execution. Medium preload restores stiffness — the set deflects less under cutting load than a light-preload set while running cooler and drawing less power than a heavy one.
