What this part is

An RHP 22220EKJW33C3 double-row spherical roller bearing, 100 mm taper bore, 180 mm outside diameter, 46 mm wide. The 22200 series is the narrow section of the spherical roller range. The two roller rows run on a common spherical outer raceway, so the inner ring and roller assembly swivel inside the outer ring and the bearing tolerates shaft deflection and housing misalignment that would destroy a cylindrical or ball bearing.

Decoding the designation

In the RHP scheme 22220 gives the narrow spherical series and the ISO bore code 20 for 100 mm, E marks the reinforced high-capacity internal design, K is a 1:12 taper bore, J is a pressed steel cage, W33 is a lubrication groove around the outer ring with three radial feed holes, and C3 is internal radial clearance greater than normal.

What these specs mean in practice

The self-aligning geometry carries heavy radial load and accepts roughly two degrees of misalignment, which is why spherical rollers dominate conveyor pulleys, fans, crushers and gearbox output shafts. Because the two roller rows sit at opposing angles, the bearing takes thrust in both directions as well as radial load. C3 clearance leaves running room for thermal growth of the inner ring relative to the outer, and it is the standard choice where the bearing mounts on a taper sleeve or runs warm. The W33 groove and holes let grease or oil reach the rolling elements from the housing without dismantling.

Adapter sleeve requirement

Bearing only. The 1:12 taper bore mounts on an adapter sleeve, and the matching sleeve for a 22220K is an H2320 with a KM20 locknut and an MB20 lockwasher. The sleeve seats on a 90 mm plain shaft, one bore-code step below the 100 mm bearing bore. Driving the bearing up the sleeve taper sets the final internal clearance.

Fitting notes

Radial internal clearance is measured with a feeler before mounting and again after the locknut is drawn up; the reduction in clearance measures how far the ring has travelled up the taper. The W33 feed holes align with the housing lubrication port.

Interchange guidance

Direct equivalents on the same envelope and clearance are the SKF 22220 EK/C3, the FAG 22220-E1-K-C3, the NSK 22220EAKE4C3 and the Koyo 22220RKC3. A straight-bore 22220 without the K is a related size rather than an interchange, since it mounts directly on the shaft and takes no sleeve. A 22220 in normal CN clearance is likewise a separate part.
