An FAG 22217-ES-K-TVPB-W33 double-row spherical roller bearing. Bore 85 mm on a 1:12 taper, outside diameter 150 mm, width 36 mm, open on both faces, two rows of barrel-profile rollers on a common spherical outer raceway, held in a glass-fibre reinforced polyamide cage.

Decoding the designation

22217 is the ISO base number; the 222 dimension series is the wide double-row spherical roller family and bore code 17 gives 85 mm. E marks the reinforced internal design. S is the FAG lubrication provision — an annular groove in the outer ring with radial feed holes, written W33 in ISO form. K is the 1:12 tapered bore. TVPB is the glass-fibre reinforced polyamide cage.

What these specs mean in practice

The spherical outer raceway lets the roller and inner-ring assembly swivel inside the outer ring, so shaft deflection and housing misalignment are taken up without loading the roller ends. Two rows of barrel rollers give very high radial capacity, and the double row takes thrust in both directions. The groove and holes let grease or oil be fed straight to the roller sets through the housing while the machine runs. The polyamide cage is light and quiet, with continuous service to about 120 °C.

Tapered bore and adapter sleeve

The 1:12 bore seats on a tapered shaft journal or on an adapter or withdrawal sleeve. For bore code 17 in this series the matching adapter sleeve is an H2317, with a cylindrical shaft seat of 75 mm, used with a KM 17 locknut and an MB 17 lockwasher. Supplied without adapter sleeve H2317.

Fitting notes

Drive-up distance on the taper sets the mounted radial internal clearance, so residual clearance is measured across the unloaded roller row with a feeler gauge before the locknut is finally secured. The outer-ring feed holes are aligned with the housing lubrication port on assembly, and ring temperature during heating is held below the polyamide cage ceiling.
