A FAG 22216 HL.AS.K.MB double-row spherical roller bearing measuring 80 mm bore x 140 mm outside diameter x 33 mm wide, with a 1:12 tapered bore, a two-piece machined brass cage guided on the inner ring, and a lubrication groove with three holes through the outer ring. Spherical roller bearings carry very high radial load plus axial load in both directions, and the spherical outer raceway lets the inner-ring assembly swivel so the bearing self-aligns to shaft deflection or housing misalignment. Sold as 1 Pc.
222 — double-row spherical roller bearing, ISO dimension series 22.
16 — bore code; 16 x 5 = 80 mm bore.
HL — FAG spherical roller bearing with increased load capacity.
AS — FAG design index carrying the lubrication feature: a circumferential lubrication groove around the outer ring outside diameter plus lubrication holes through to the raceway. This is FAG’s equivalent of the W33 code used elsewhere in the industry, which is why the title carries both.
K — tapered bore, taper 1:12.
MB — two-piece solid machined brass cage, guided on the inner ring central rib.
The tapered bore is the single most important thing to get right on this listing. A 1:12 taper is not a shaft fit — it is a mounting system. On a plain cylindrical shaft the bearing sits on an H316 adapter sleeve (or is withdrawn with an AH316 withdrawal sleeve), and the sleeve is what sets the interference: you drive the bearing up the taper until the internal clearance has been reduced by the amount the design calls for, then lock it with a KM16 locknut and MB16 lockwasher. Because the sleeve carries the shaft, the shaft seat under an H316 is 70 mm, not 80 mm. Alternatively the bearing mounts directly on a machined 1:12 tapered shaft seat with no sleeve at all. Either way, drive-up distance and residual clearance have to be measured — a tapered-bore bearing driven too far up its taper is preloaded, runs hot and fails early.
The two-piece MB brass cage is the heavy-duty option. Each roller row gets its own cage, so the two rows can index independently and the cage fingers do not bend when one row is more heavily loaded than the other. Brass tolerates shock, vibration, high speed and marginal lubrication better than pressed steel, and being guided on the inner ring rib it stays located under acceleration.
The lubrication groove and holes only earn their keep if the housing has a matching grease feed. Line the housing port up with the outer ring groove and fresh grease is pushed straight into the centre of both roller rows, which is what lengthens relubrication intervals. Feed the bearing from the side instead and the groove does nothing.
Heat stabilisation to 200 °C means the rings will hold their dimensions at sustained high temperature rather than growing and losing clearance — the reason this design shows up in fans, kilns, dryers and paper machines.

One bearing per sale — 1 Pc. What ships is the complete non-separable bearing: inner ring with the 1:12 tapered bore, two rows of rollers, two-piece brass cage, and outer ring with the lubrication groove and holes. The H316 adapter sleeve, AH316 withdrawal sleeve, KM16 locknut, MB16 lockwasher and housing are separate items and are not included. If your shaft is not already machined with a 1:12 taper, you need the sleeve to mount this bearing.
Measure the unmounted radial internal clearance with a feeler gauge before you start, then drive the bearing up the taper and re-measure until the clearance reduction matches the mounting table for the fit you want. Support and drive against the inner ring only; the outer ring swivels and will cock the rollers if used to drive the assembly. Align the housing grease port with the outer ring groove before final assembly. Grease fill is typically 30–50% of free space; overpacking a spherical roller bearing is a common cause of an early temperature rise.
The 80 x 140 x 33 mm 222-series envelope is industry-standard, and the tapered-bore version takes the same H316 sleeve across every brand. Cross-references for a tapered-bore, brass-cage, relubricatable 22216: SKF 22216 CAK/W33 or 22216 EK/W33 with an MA/M brass cage, NSK 22216 CAMKE4, NTN and NTN-SNR 22216 EMKW33, Timken 22216 KEMW33 or 22216 KEMBW33. 22216E is carried on this listing as a dimensional cross-reference for the same envelope — FAG’s current E1 generation of this bearing is a later internal design with its own ratings, so treat the E number as a size match rather than a like-for-like design. A version without the K suffix has a straight cylindrical bore and needs no sleeve; a version without the lubrication groove and holes cannot be regreased through the housing.
