A Link-Belt FXW-212-E mounted ball bearing unit — a two-bolt alignable flange block for a 3/4 inch shaft. The housing bolts to a machine wall or frame through two holes, and the insert seats spherically so the unit takes up shaft-to-housing angular error at installation.

Decoding the designation

FX = Link-Belt two-bolt alignable flanged unit. W = the W200 insert series. 212 = shaft size in sixteenths of an inch, so 12/16 = 3/4 inch bore. E = the type E seal build, Link-Belt’s grease-lubrication seal option in this family.

Housing style, read this before ordering

FX is the two-bolt flange. Link-Belt’s four-bolt flange in the same 200 series is F (F3-U200N, F-U200N), and the three-bolt round flange is FB3. Bolt count is part of the housing style and none of the three share a footprint, so count the holes on the housing you are replacing rather than working from the bore alone. This is also not a pillow block — those carry a P, PL, PH or PT prefix.

What these specs mean in practice

Alignable means the insert can swivel in the housing to absorb the angular error you get from a frame that is not perfectly square. It is an installation allowance, not a running one — a shaft that continues to move will load the bearing rather than being followed by it.

A two-bolt flange gives you a diagonal bolt pattern and a compact face, which is why it turns up on light conveyor and fan drives where there is no room for a four-bolt square. It also means less resistance to moment loads than a four-bolt housing, so keep overhung loads modest and do not use one to carry a heavy sprocket cantilevered off the face.

Sold as 1 pc — one complete unit, housing with the insert fitted. Mounting bolts are not included.

Fitting notes

Bolt to a flat, square face and shim rather than pulling the flange onto a high spot; a distorted mounting face uses up the alignment allowance before the shaft ever turns. Fit the unit to the shaft, set the position, secure the insert locking device, then rotate by hand and confirm the insert still swivels in its seat. Purge the grease path with fresh compatible grease before running.

Interchange guidance

Two-bolt flange units at 3/4 inch bore also come from Dodge (F2B), SealMaster (SFT, FT), Rexnord (KF), Hub City (FB) and SKF (FYT). Flange face dimensions and bolt centres differ by maker, so measure before treating any of them as a drop-in. Related, not interchangeable: Link-Belt F-212 four-bolt flange and FB3-212 three-bolt round flange are the same bore in a different housing, and a U or UG insert version is a different locking arrangement.
