What this part is

A single super-precision angular contact ball bearing in the 60 mm bore × 95 mm outside diameter × 18 mm width envelope, the ISO 7012 size. Single row, machined cage, universally ground.

Decoding the designation

This part carries two designations and between them they fix every spec. In 7012CTSUMP4 the C is a 15° contact angle, T the machined phenolic cage, SUM a single universally ground bearing at medium preload, and P4 the class equivalent to ABEC 7. In the B-series form B7012X2TADUMEP7 the X2 independently gives the 15° angle and EP7 independently gives the P4 class.

What these specs mean in practice

A 15° contact angle carries more radial load and runs faster than a 25° or 40° bearing of the same size, and carries correspondingly less thrust. Medium preload sits between light and heavy: it gives more axial rigidity and tighter shaft location than light preload, without the heat generation that limits heavy preload at speed. The phenolic cage is outer-ring guided and rated to 120 °C, which sets the practical temperature ceiling. At 18 mm wide on a 60 mm bore this is a slim-section spindle bearing from the 70 dimension series, specified where axial space in the housing is short.

Thrust direction

A single-row angular contact bearing carries radial load together with thrust in one direction only. Axial location in both directions comes from mounting a second bearing opposed to this one.

Fitting notes

Universal grinding means any two bearings of the same designation and preload class stack back-to-back, face-to-face or in tandem and arrive at the specified medium preload without shimming or hand grinding. Mounting is against a square, clean shoulder, and the preload class is only realised when the outer ring seats fully in the housing bore.

RHP super-precision designations cross-reference directly to NSK, which acquired RHP and continued the numbering. The same-spec equivalents are NSK 7012CTSUMP4 and Timken 2MM9112WI CR UM. Bearings sharing the 60 × 95 × 18 mm envelope with a different contact angle, preload grade or class, such as a light-preload version or a P6 class version, are related sizes rather than substitutions.
