What this part is

A matched duplex pair of RHP 7003C super-precision angular contact ball bearings, 17 mm bore, 35 mm outside diameter, 10 mm wide each. The 7000 series is the light section of the super-precision angular contact range, used where speed matters more than load capacity.

Decoding the designation

In the RHP scheme 7003 is the ISO 70-series section, C sets the contact angle at 15°, T is a phenolic resin cage, DU marks the pieces as a ground duplex set, and L is light preload. The equivalent RHP B-series designation is B7003X2TADULEP7, in which X2 reads the angle a second way as 15°.

What these specs mean in practice

A 15° contact angle gives the highest speed capability and the lowest axial stiffness of the standard angular contact angles, which is why grinding and high-frequency spindles use it. Light preload keeps heat generation and running torque down and leaves the most speed headroom of the three standard preloads. Phenolic resin rides the outer-ring land, is light and oil-absorbent, and works to roughly 120 °C.

2 Pcs, supplied as one matched duplex set. The rings are ground together so the pair reaches the specified light preload when clamped solid, with no shims and no measurement. Stack height for the pair is 20 mm.

Thrust direction

Each bearing on its own takes thrust in one direction. Back-to-back or face-to-face, the pair takes thrust in both directions; in tandem it takes a larger load in one direction only.

Fitting notes

The V etch across the two outer-ring faces aligns to give the ground arrangement; rotating one ring relative to the other changes the preload the set was ground for. The rings clamp solid against the housing shoulder and shaft nut, so seat squareness governs the running accuracy delivered.

Interchange guidance

Direct substitutes are an RHP or NSK 7003C duplex pair at light preload with a phenolic cage, and the B-series form B7003X2TADULEP7. A 7003E at 25° or 7003A at 30° shares the 17 x 35 x 10 mm envelope but is a related size, not an interchange. Medium and heavy preload sets of the same number are also different parts.
