Operating Principle: With power off, a permanent magnetic field pulls the armature plate onto the magnet surface and the brake holds; with the correct-polarity DC voltage applied, the field is cancelled and the brake releases.
Holding with the power off makes the brake fail-safe: the shaft is held on loss of supply.
