An NSK 22216 CAM E4 C3 double-row spherical roller bearing measuring 80 mm bore x 140 mm outside diameter x 33 mm wide. Straight (cylindrical) bore, open, a one-piece machined brass cage running on a floating guide ring, an oil groove and lubrication holes through the outer ring, and C3 radial internal clearance. Spherical roller bearings carry very high radial load plus axial load in both directions, and the spherical outer raceway lets the inner-ring assembly swivel so the bearing self-aligns to shaft deflection or housing misalignment. Sold as 1 Pc.
222 — double-row spherical roller bearing, ISO dimension series 22.
16 — bore code; 16 x 5 = 80 mm bore.
CA / CAM — NSK internal design: retaining flanges on the inner ring with a floating guide ring, and a one-piece solid machined brass cage. CA is the only NSK spherical roller family that uses a machined brass cage; the EA, C and CD families all use pressed steel.
E4 — NSK’s code for an oil groove and lubrication holes in the outer ring. It is the direct equivalent of the industry W33 code, which is why the title carries both.
C3 — radial internal clearance greater than normal.
No K in the designation — straight cylindrical bore. No adapter sleeve is involved.
The brass cage is the reason to specify CA. A one-piece machined brass cage is far stiffer and more shock-tolerant than a pressed steel cage, runs cooler, and copes with marginal lubrication and vibration — which is why it is the usual choice in crushers, vibrating screens, mill drives and anything with a shock load. The floating guide ring separates the two roller rows without a fixed central rib, so both rows stay aligned without the rib eating axial space.
One detail NSK publishes that most sellers skip: the depth of the oil groove in E4 bearings is limited, so NSK recommends machining an oil groove in the housing bore as well. Without it you are relying on a shallow groove to distribute grease around the full circumference, and the far side of the bearing sees less. If you are putting this into a housing you control, cut the groove.
C3 is chosen deliberately, not as an upgrade. Extra clearance absorbs a heavy interference fit on the shaft, a large temperature difference between inner and outer ring, or thermal growth in the housing — all of which eat clearance once the machine is hot. Fitting C3 where normal clearance was specified leaves a lightly loaded bearing able to skid its rollers rather than roll them, which polishes the raceway and shortens life.

One bearing per sale — 1 Pc. Complete non-separable bearing: inner ring, two rows of spherical rollers, one-piece machined brass cage, floating guide ring and outer ring with the oil groove and lubrication holes. No housing, no locknut and no sleeve are included, and none are needed for a cylindrical shaft seat.
Straight-bore spherical roller bearings mount with an interference fit on the shaft. Heat the bearing or use a hydraulic fit-up tool; drive against the inner ring only, never through the outer ring, because the outer ring can swivel and will cock the rollers. Align the housing grease port with the outer ring groove before final assembly, and cut a matching groove in the housing bore if you can. Keep the axial component well below the radial load: with Fa/Fr above e = 0.22 the unloaded roller row can lose contact and skid. Grease fill is typically 30–50% of free space; overpacking a spherical roller bearing is a common cause of an early temperature rise.
The 80 x 140 x 33 mm 222-series envelope is industry-standard, so a 22216 in another brand’s nomenclature fits the same seat — but match the cage, because a brass-caged bearing and a steel-caged one are not the same part in a shock-loaded position. Brass-cage equivalents: SKF 22216 CA/C3W33 or CAC/C3W33, FAG 22216-E1A-M-C3 or 22216 AS.MB.C3, NTN and NTN-SNR 22216 EMW33C3, Timken 22216 EMW33C3 or EMBW33C3, Koyo 22216RW33C3. Steel-caged same-envelope alternatives — NSK 22216 CD E4 C3, SKF 22216 CC/C3W33, Timken 22216 EJW33C3 — are a size match with a different cage. 53516 is the GOST designation for the same envelope.
