What this part is

An AVENTICS Series AS1-SSV progressive filling valve, commonly called a soft-start valve. On start-up it admits compressed air to the downstream system slowly through an adjustable bleed, then snaps fully open once about half the supply pressure has built. That gradual ramp stops cylinders firing to their end stops and stops a whole manifold coming alive at once, which is both a safety measure and the reason machines with long air receivers do not jolt when the supply is restored. It is a modular G1/4 module for an AS1 air preparation chain, and a compressed-air device rather than a hydraulic one: it is not rated for hydraulic oil or hydraulic pressures.

What these specs mean in practice

The fill rate is adjustable, so the time a machine takes to come up to pressure is set on the valve rather than fixed. Internal piloting means there is nothing electrical: no coil, no voltage to match and no connector. A PLC-commanded fill is the job of the separate AS1-SOV solenoid module.

Because it switches to full flow only above roughly half supply pressure, a soft-start valve works against a real supply pressure and is not a low-pressure or vacuum device.

2000 l/min through a G1/4 body feeds a substantial manifold once open, so the soft start does not become a permanent flow restriction in normal running.

Mounting data

The module’s place in the chain is downstream of the shut-off valve and upstream of the machine manifold. This build flows left to right; R412014749 is the same filling valve built right-to-left.

Interchange guidance

R412014749 is the R→L build of this valve. R412006272 (AS2-SSV-G014-FIA) and R412007273 (AS3-SSV-G012-FIA, G1/2) are the same function in the larger AS2 and AS3 size classes, related sizes rather than drop-in substitutes for an AS1 chain. NL1-SSV-G014-FIA is the equivalent under the older Rexroth NL1 designation.
