A FAG 22309E double-row spherical roller bearing, 45 mm bore, 100 mm outside diameter, 36 mm width. Straight cylindrical bore, open, steel cage, reinforced E internal design, normal precision class, CN internal clearance.
223 identifies the double-row spherical roller bearing in the 23 dimension series, the widest and heaviest of the common spherical roller series. The bore code 09 gives 45 mm. E is the reinforced FAG internal design with a larger roller set and a higher dynamic rating than the base design. There is no K, so the bore is straight and the bearing mounts directly on the shaft.
Two rows of barrel rollers share a spherical outer raceway, so the roller set swivels inside the outer ring and the bearing absorbs shaft misalignment and housing deflection under very heavy radial load. A double-row spherical roller bearing takes thrust in both directions. The 23 series packs a taller roller into the same bore as the 22 series, which raises radial capacity and lowers the speed limit.

The straight bore takes an interference fit on a cylindrical shaft seat, mounted by induction or oil-bath heating. Relubrication is through the housing, since the outer ring carries no lubrication groove.
SKF 22309 E and NTN 22309EAE4 are same-envelope equivalents in the reinforced design. FAG 22309EK is a related size with a 1:12 tapered bore that mounts on an H2309 adapter sleeve; FAG 22309E.W33 is a related size with a lubrication groove and three feed holes in the outer ring.
