| Compatible With Replaces | Direct replacement for Woodhead / Haztex 61430 series hazardous location handlamps; accepts 61431, 61432 and 61435 service parts |
| Additional Attributes | Temperature code T3B corresponds to a 165 C maximum surface temperature - verify against the auto-ignition temperature of the specific gas or dust present; a T4 or T6 requirement is not satisfied by this fixture. Wattage de-rating is the trap: 100 W is permitted in Class I Groups C and D but Class II Group G caps the lamp at 75 W. For work inside conductive enclosures (tanks, boilers) Woodhead specifies a 12 V handlamp with the in-line transformer kept outside the conductive location, or a low-voltage workstation - the 61430 is the line-voltage fixture and is not that part. No switch is fitted. Cord and plug are not supplied on the base 61430; any cord used must suit the classified location, and factory corded versions use Woodhead Super-Safeway plugs. Lamp (bulb) not included. Distributor catalogues publish an 11-digit UPC string 78678861430 for this item, which is not a valid 12-digit UPC-A, so the GTIN reference is left blank rather than guessed. A cracked globe or missing guard invalidates the agency listing - inspect before energising. |
| Nominal Rated Input Voltage | 250 V AC maximum fixture rating per Molex datasheet (Woodhead catalogue lists 240 V max); factory corded versions supplied for 120 V AC 60 Hz |

Hazardous-area certification – the whole point of this lamp:
This is the specification that decides whether you can use it, so it goes first:
Class I, Division 1, Groups C and D (flammable gases and vapours) – 100 W maximum lampClass II, Division 1, Groups F and G (ignitable dust) – 75 W maximum lampClass I, Zone 1, Group IIB (UL)UL temperature rating T3BUL File No. E30252; CSA File No. LR39801Designed and built to the requirements of NEC Article 500, and agency listed for classified locationsNEMA 4X enclosure rating; hazardous and wet location dutyNote the de-rating carefully: Division 1 Group C and D allows 100 W, but Class II Group G caps you at 75 W. If the area classification includes Group G dust, fitting a 100 W bulb takes the assembly outside its listing. Temperature code T3B corresponds to a 165 C maximum surface temperature, so check it against the auto-ignition temperature of the specific gas or dust in your area – a T4 or T6 requirement is not satisfied by this fixture.
Woodhead part 61430 is the base catalogue number, and it is the fixture without cord. Molex order number 130104-0041. The corded versions carry a letter and a gauge suffix:
61430A143 / 130104-0042 – 14/3 SOOW, NEMA 5-15, 25 ft61430B143 / 130104-0044 – 14/3 SOOW, NEMA 5-15, 50 ft61430D143 / 130104-0048 – 14/3 SOOW, NEMA 5-15, 100 ft61430A163 / 130104-0043 – 16/3 SOOW, NEMA 5-15, 25 ft61430B163 / 130104-0045 – 16/3 SOOW, NEMA 5-15, 50 ft61430D163 / 130104-0049 – 16/3 SOOW, NEMA 5-15, 100 ftSo: A = 25 ft, B = 50 ft, D = 100 ft; 143 = 14/3 SOOW, 163 = 16/3 SOOW. Because this is the plain 61430, you supply the cord and terminate it yourself, and you must use cord and a plug appropriate to the classified location – the factory corded versions use Woodhead Super-Safeway plugs. No lamp (bulb) is included.
Fixture voltage rating: 250 V maximum per the Molex datasheet; the Woodhead catalogue lists it as 240 V maximum. Factory corded versions are supplied for 120 V AC 60 HzMaximum wattage: 100 W (75 W in Class II Group G)Lamp type: A21 incandescent, medium screw base. A switch is an ignition sourceApproximate size: 5 in diameter x 16-1/2 in longMounting: hand held; hook assembly available separately for hanging use
An explosion-protected incandescent handlamp survives in service for reasons that have nothing to do with efficiency. There is no ballast and no driver electronics to fail inside a sealed enclosure, the filament is indifferent to cold starts, and the light is fully dimmable-free full-spectrum output that shows true colour on corroded metal and fluid leaks – which is why inspection crews still specify them over LED in tanks, vessels and sumps. The trade-offs are honest: 650 lumens from 100 W is poor efficacy, the glass runs hot, and the globe is a consumable. There is no switch on the lamp because in a Division 1 area a switch contact is an arc waiting to happen; you switch it at a classified receptacle or upstream instead.
For work inside tanks, boilers and other conductive enclosures, Woodhead’s own guidance is to use a 12 V version fed through an in-line transformer, with the transformer kept outside the conductive location, or to run from a low-voltage workstation. The 61430 is the line-voltage incandescent fixture, so if your job spec calls for 12 V in a confined conductive space this is not the correct part – the 12 V incandescent handlamps and the 1678-12 in-line transformer with the 1676-EX cover assembly are.
61431 – guard assembly for the 6143061432 – socket and handle assembly for the 6143061435 – glass globe for the 6143061430RT – reglobing tool for the 6143061436 – hook assembly for hand lamps (51-7272 hook)1678-12 – in-line transformer for incandescent hand lamp; 1676-EX – transformer cover assembly for hazardous duty hand lamps
Daniel Woodhead is now part of Molex, and the portable lighting and Brad Harrison connector lines were sold together as Woodhead / Aero-Motive / Brad Harrison / Daniel Woodhead. The trade name on this product is Haztex. Searching Molex order numbers (the 130104-xxxx series) will find current catalogue data where the legacy Woodhead number returns nothing; both numbering systems point at the same fixture. The sister catalogue number 61450 is the LED hazardous-location handlamp in the same family, rated T4 with 750 lumens – the natural upgrade path if efficacy and lamp life matter more than colour rendering.
New old stock, open box. Three units in stock, each sold individually. Cord and lamp are not included on the 61430; verify the globe and guard are intact and that the fixture is complete against the photographs before ordering. Any fixture used in a classified location should be inspected and confirmed complete and undamaged before energising – a cracked globe or a missing guard invalidates the listing.
