A Siemens 6FX1122-2AD02 — the NC/PLC coupling module for the Sinumerik 3 CNC control, running at 8 MHz. It is the communications interface between the numerical-control side and the machine PLC side of the control: signals, interlocks and status pass across this card. Functionally it is a coupling / interface board, not an I/O module, not an output module and not a CPU.

When this coupling fails, the symptom is a control that powers up and shows a screen but will not talk to the machine: interlocks stay unsatisfied, the machine will not enable and PLC status looks dead from the NC side. That is a different fault picture from an I/O card failure, which affects specific signals rather than the whole exchange. The 8 MHz rating is part of the identity — slower and faster variants of the coupling exist and are matched to the control’s CPU generation.

6FX1122-2AD02, 6FX11222AD02 and 6FX1 122-2AD02 are the same card. 6FX1122-1AD02 is an earlier generation of the same coupling function and 6FX1122-2AM02 a related variant — both are different parts, not confirmed equivalents. Sinumerik 3 cards do not fit Sinumerik 800 / 8 series or Sinumerik 840 racks.
