What this part is

GE Fanuc IC600BF841K is the 0 to 10 V DC Analog Input Module for the Series Six programmable controller. It is an input-only board: it takes eight analog voltage signals from field devices such as transducers, transmitters, potentiometers and tachometer conditioners, converts each to a 12-bit digital value, and presents them to the PLC’s Input Status Table. It does not drive any outputs.

12-bit resolution across a 0–10 V span works out to roughly 2.4 mV per count, finer than most 1980s-vintage field transmitters deliver, so sensor drift and wiring noise set the achievable accuracy rather than the card. The range is unipolar, so a bidirectional signal such as a velocity or load-cell output that goes negative is the BF842’s range; this board clamps at zero.

The optical isolator between field wiring and the backplane keeps a remote machine’s ground reference out of the PLC rack over long signal pairs. Unused channels have the Input (IN) terminal and the Return terminal tied to the shield terminal, since an undriven multiplexer input destabilises readings on adjacent channels.

Channel access is sequential and repetitive rather than simultaneous-sample, so the eight channels are not captured at the same instant. Slow process variables such as temperature, pressure, level and flow are unaffected; inter-channel phase follows the scan.

The faceplate carries the field terminals, so no separate terminal block is required, and all field wiring is made by the installer.

DIP switches on the rack backplane immediately behind the card slot reserve the 32-bit group in the Input Status Table that this module occupies. The circuit board is fitted and removed with the extraction/insertion tool furnished with the CPU. The faceplate’s edge connector slips over the seated circuit board and the faceplate is secured to the rack by thumbscrews top and bottom. The module is static-sensitive.
