A GE Fanuc IC697CPU731 — the single-slot CPU module for the Series 90-70 programmable logic controller. It is the processor of the rack: it executes the user ladder program, scans the I/O modules across the rack backplane, and holds the configuration and register data. Being a single-slot design it occupies one rack slot rather than the two taken by the larger 90-70 processors.
This is a GE Fanuc IC-series module, not a Fanuc CNC part. The IC-prefix numbering (IC600 / IC610 / IC630 / IC693 / IC697) belongs to GE Fanuc Automation’s PLC lines, which are a separate product world from Fanuc’s own A06B / A16B / A20B CNC hardware. The two are not interchangeable and share no racks, cables or software.

Type: Series 90-70 CPU module, single slotMicroprocessor: 80C186, 12 MHzMemory: 32 Kbyte, user-configurable split between program and data memoryDiscrete I/O: up to 512 pointsAnalogue I/O: up to 8000Programming and configuration: MS-DOS or Windows Logicmaster / control software, over the SNP serial port or via a separate Ethernet TCP/IP interface moduleBattery: lithium backup battery IC697ACC701 maintains program, data memory and the calendar clockMounting: plug-in module in a Series 90-70 rack backplaneOrigin: USA
The 731 sits at the entry end of the 90-70 processor range. 32 Kbyte of configurable memory and 512 discrete points are real ceilings — a large machine or plant application will outgrow this CPU, and the floating-point models (for example the IC697CPX782 with an 80486 core) exist for that reason. If you are replacing a larger 90-70 CPU with this one, check the program size and I/O count first, because it will refuse a configuration that exceeds its limits. Conversely, for a small legacy 90-70 rack it is the correct and space-efficient part.
Fit a fresh lithium battery before commissioning — a surplus CPU arrives with a dead or absent cell and will not retain the program or clock without one. The processor holds no application program on arrival: the ladder and hardware configuration must be downloaded from your own backup. Confirm the CPU firmware revision is compatible with the programming software version you intend to use.
CPU module only. No Series 90-70 rack or backplane, no rack power supply, no I/O modules, no Ethernet or bus controller modules, no IC697ACC701 lithium battery, no SNP or programming cable, no connector kits, no Logicmaster or Proficy software, no ladder program and no documentation.
Sold as one module.
IC697CPU731X, IC697CPU731 and the other revision letters (H, L and so on) are the same processor specification. Other 90-70 CPU numbers — CPU771, CPU772, CPU780, CPX772, CPX782 — are different processors with different clock speeds, memory sizes and slot widths and are not drop-in equivalents. Series 90-70 (IC697) modules do not fit Series 90-30 (IC693), Series Six (IC600) or Series Five racks.
