Allen-Bradley 1734D-IA8XOA8S POINTBlock combination I/O block. Platform: 1734 POINT I/O. Module Type: combination AC input/output block with an integrated DeviceNet node interface. Inputs: 8 x 120 V AC. Outputs: 8 x AC. Termination Type: spring clamp, removable. Mounting: 35 mm DIN rail. Expansion: POINTBus port on the right-hand side for downstream 1734 POINT I/O modules.
1734 = POINT I/O platform. D = POINTBlock, with the DeviceNet network interface and the field terminations built into the block. IA8 = eight 120 V AC inputs. X = combination module. OA8 = eight AC outputs. S = spring-clamp termination.
Termination Type: S = spring clamp. The otherwise-identical 1734D-IA8XOA8, without the S, is cage clamp. Same electricals, different wiring action.
The block is the DeviceNet node itself, so a separate 1734-ADN or equivalent network adapter is not part of the drop. The photographs show the 5-pin DeviceNet connector and the node-address setting on the module.
Terminations are integrated and removable, so the wiring loom unplugs as an assembly and the block swaps without re-terminating. The removable terminal assembly is visible alongside the module in the photographs. Terminal Base Required: none.
Internal power: 24 V DC from the DeviceNet connection feeds a non-isolated DC/DC converter that generates the internal +5 V DC, powering the block and the POINTBus expansion port for any downstream POINT I/O. The result is a compact, low-part-count remote AC I/O drop for 120 V field devices sited a long way from the controller.
Applied field power connects to the internal field power bus and propagates to every module to the right of the block. Field power segmentation, for a different field voltage or an isolated group further along the rail, uses a 1734-FPD field power distributor, a 1734-EP24DC or a 1734-EPAC.
Overall Dimensions: 76.2 x 60.0 x 133.4 mm (3.0 x 2.36 x 5.25 in.). Rockwell specifies a 25.4 mm (1 in.) air gap on all sides and the DIN rail secured roughly every 200 mm. A fully populated POINTBlock rail carrying AC modules generates real heat in a sealed enclosure, which is what the air gap and rail spacing figures are set for.
Manufacturer Status: obsolete. This is an end-of-life catalogue number, dropped from the current 1734 selection guide, and Rockwell publishes no migration part for it. DeviceNet is itself a legacy network, so a modern equivalent means EtherNet/IP POINT I/O or a Compact 5000 drop — a network change rather than a like-for-like swap.
Unit Quantity: 1 block with its removable terminal assembly, in an antistatic bag. The photographs show the yellow factory “Passed” test sticker, the intact “Warranty Void If Removed” seal, the LED point indicators for the eight inputs and eight outputs, the node-address setting and the DeviceNet connector. The nameplate carries the input/output rating table and UL, CE and DeviceNet conformance marks.
GTIN: 612598207770. Also written 1734DIA8XOA8S, 1734D-IA8XOA8-S and 1734D IA8XOA8S. Related blocks: 1734D-IA8XOA8 (cage-clamp termination), 1734D-IA8XOW8S (relay outputs), 1734D-IB8XOB8E (24 V DC execution). Industry terms: POINTBlock, POINT Block DeviceNet AC I/O, 1734 combination module 8 in 8 out, DeviceNet I/O block, distributed I/O drop.
