This is one AF-300 Mini variable frequency drive — a compact V/Hz inverter that takes 460 VAC three-phase line power and produces a variable-frequency, variable-voltage output to run a standard three-phase AC induction motor at adjustable speed. Built by Fuji Electric and sold in North America under the GE AF-300 catalogue, it is a complete wall- or panel-mounted drive, not a control card and not a soft starter: it varies speed continuously rather than merely ramping the motor up to line frequency.
The catalogue number reads field by field, and every field matters when you are matching a replacement:
6K — GE/Fuji inverter product code.
M$ — the drive family: AF-300 Mini. Sister families in the same scheme are E$ (AF-300 E), G11, P11 and so on, and they are not interchangeable with a Mini.
2 — series revision: second product revision of the family.
43 — input rating: 460 VAC, 50/60 Hz, three phase.
001 — horsepower: 1 HP. Read this field, not the family name.
N — factory-installed option: None, meaning this unit was built without the keypad option.
1 — enclosure: NEMA 1 / UL Type 1, indoor general purpose.
A1 — product revision and minor revision (1st / 1st).
The 300 in AF-300 is the drive family designation, not a rating. This is a 1 HP drive — the horsepower is the 001 field of the catalogue number. It is worth stating plainly because “AF-300” gets read as a power rating often enough to cause wrong-size orders.
A 1 HP 460 V frame is small-pump, fan, conveyor and mixer territory — the sort of load where a drive is fitted for soft starting and turndown rather than energy savings on a big motor. Two practical points follow from the code. Because the enclosure is NEMA 1, it needs a clean, dry, reasonably cool cabinet or wall location: no washdown, no coolant mist, no metal dust. And because the option field is N, speed reference and start/stop have to come from the terminal strip — an analog reference and dry contacts, or a serial link if fitted — unless you add a keypad or remote operator panel. Sink or source polarity on the digital inputs is set by the drive’s wiring and configuration, not fixed by the hardware, so check the terminal assignments against your existing loom before you land wires.
Motor rating: 1 HP
Input: 460 VAC, three phase, 50/60 Hz
Output: three-phase variable frequency / variable voltage for an AC induction motor
Enclosure: NEMA 1 (UL Type 1), indoor
Factory keypad option: not fitted (N)
Family: AF-300 Mini, second series revision
One drive ships. No keypad or remote operator panel, no motor, no line reactor or load reactor, no dynamic-braking resistor, no EMC filter, no dust cover, no mounting hardware and no manual are included. The N in the catalogue number is the reason the keypad is absent — that is how the unit was built, not something missing from the box.
Isolate and lock out upstream before wiring, and allow the DC bus capacitors to discharge fully before opening the terminal cover — a drive that has been switched off for seconds is still dangerous. Mount vertically with the specified clearance above and below for convection airflow; a Mini frame in a sealed box with no clearance will nuisance-trip on overtemperature long before it fails. Ground the drive and the motor frame back to the same point, and use screened motor cable with the screen landed at both ends, because a 460 V PWM output radiates enough to upset encoders and analog signals sharing a duct. Before the first run, set the motor nameplate parameters — rated voltage, current, frequency and base speed — and set the acceleration and current limit to suit the load; a drive left on defaults will trip on a loaded conveyor start.
Searched as 6KM$243001N1A1, 6KM243001N1A1, 6KM 243001 N1A1, 6KMS243001N1A1, AF-300 Mini, AF300 Mini and GE AF-300 1HP 460V. The $ in the family field is a literal character in the GE/Fuji catalogue scheme, and it is frequently transcribed as an S or dropped entirely, so search both ways. Nearby builds worth knowing: 6KM$243001X1A1 is the same drive supplied with the keypad option, and 6KM$143001N1A1 is the first-series-revision equivalent — same 1 HP 460 V frame, differing only in the option or revision field, so they are carried as cross-references rather than exact equals. Brand and support history for search reach: the AF-300 line is Fuji Electric hardware sold under GE, later GE Industrial Systems, with the AF-300 range now succeeded by Fuji’s FRENIC family; legacy Mini drives are supported through surplus and drive-repair houses.
