A mechanical through-bolt (wedge) anchor – in Dutch a doorsteekanker. The steel stud carries an expansion sleeve at the embedded end and a hex nut with washer at the head. As the nut is tightened the cone draws into the sleeve, the sleeve expands against the wall of the drilled hole and the anchor locks by friction. It is not a chemical anchor, not a sleeve-and-plug, and not a hex-head bolt – it is tightened by the SW 17 hex nut with a spanner or socket, not by a hex key.
DE FAST – Ter Laare’s DE FAST ETA 7 through-bolt anchor range.ETA 7 – European Technical Assessment, Option 7: approved for use in uncracked concrete only. This is the distinction that matters. Option 7 anchors are not assessed for the tension zone of a cracked concrete member; if your calculation puts the anchor in cracked concrete you need an Option 1 anchor, not this one.M10 – metric thread size of the stud, M10.065 – overall anchor length, 65 mm./005 – the part almost everyone misreads: it is the maximum clamping (fixture) thickness in millimetres – 5 mm. The carton pictogram confirms it. That is the total thickness of the bracket, plate or rail the anchor can clamp. Why the drill depth is deeper than the anchor is long:
The 70 mm hole against a 65 mm anchor is deliberate, not a misprint. The extra depth gives the drill dust somewhere to go so the anchor seats fully rather than bottoming out on debris – a bottomed anchor cannot develop its expansion and will pull at a fraction of its rated load. Blow or vacuum the hole out before setting. The DE FAST range is fully threaded with two approved embedment depths, which is what gives it flexibility: the deeper setting yields the higher load capacity, the shallower setting buys you more clamping thickness. Load tables are tied to the embedment you actually use, so the load you can claim depends on how deep you set it.
35 Nm is a specification, not a suggestion. Under-torque and the sleeve never fully expands; over-torque and you can strip the concrete around the cone or yield a class 5.8 stud. Use a calibrated torque wrench on any fixing that a safety case depends on – overhead work, seismic restraint, handrails, machine anchorage.
This is a European, metric, ETA-assessed anchor from a Netherlands supplier. It carries a European Technical Assessment, not an ICC-ES evaluation report, so it is not the right product where a US building official requires an ICC-ES ESR number for a structural fixing. It is entirely appropriate for machinery anchorage, equipment mounting, conduit and pipe support, and general industrial fixing work. Equivalent products in the US market by geometry and function include Rawl R-XPT, and the various M10 x 65 through-bolt / wedge anchors from Hilti, fischer and Eurobolt – match on thread size, anchor length, drill diameter and maximum clamping thickness, and note that a nominally equivalent anchor from another brand will have its own approval and its own load table. Do not carry load figures across brands.
