Kit contents – what is actually in the boxes:
The carton is printed SR 61 Cordless Scanner Kit and the shipping label reads 1D SCANNER BATTERY CHARGE BASE PS. The kit as supplied contains:
SR61B1D cordless handheld scanner with 1D linear imagerLithium-ion battery packCharge / charging basePower supply (PSU) for the baseQuick start documentationThe AC line cord for the power supply is NOT included. Intermec sold it separately; the US line cord is part number 1-974028-025. This is deliberate on Intermec’s part – the same kit shipped worldwide with the region-appropriate cord ordered as a line item. Budget for one, or use any matching IEC cord you already have.
SR61 – the rugged industrial handheld scanner family.B – Bluetooth cordless model (the tethered/cabled models are SR61T).1D – scan engine: 1D linear imager, the Intermec EV10. The other engines in the family are L (standard-range laser, EL20), XR (extra-range area imager), HP (high-performance 2D area imager) and DPM (high-density / direct part mark).CB – kit configuration including the charge base.001 – configuration / region variant.Because the engine is a 1D linear imager, this scanner reads linear and stacked codes only. It will not read 2D codes – no Data Matrix, no QR, no MaxiCode, no PDF417 in the 2D sense. If your application has migrated to 2D labels, you need an SR61BHP or SR61BXR, and no firmware change on this unit will fix it. That is the single most important fit question on this listing.
Code 128 / EAN 128, Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, UPC/EAN/ISBN including add-ons, 2 of 5 Matrix standard, Codabar, Code 93, Code 93i, MSI, Plessey, Code 11, Telepen, ISBT 128, RSS and RSS Stacked. The linear imager builds also handle Micro PDF, PDF417, Macro PDF, Codablock, TLC39 and composite codes CC-A/B/C.
Radio: Bluetooth Class 1, 2.4 GHz, with adaptive frequency hopping. Earlier SR61B literature lists v1.2; the later (2012) SR61 family datasheet lists v2.1 + EDR – build-dependent, check the labelRange: approximately 100 m (325 ft) in open space with a Class 1 host, about 30 m (100 ft) in a typical work environmentBluetooth profiles: HID Keyboard and SPP (Serial Port Profile). HID needs no host software – the scanner presents as a keyboard. SPP presents as a serial port for applications already written to COM. HID support requires firmware BF4_252 or laterMulti-scanner: up to seven SR61B scanners can connect to one host or to an Intermec SD61 base stationBattery: lithium-ion, 10-plus hours per full charge, 2.5 hours to 90% recharge; field-swappableRecharging temperature: 0 C to +35 C (32 F to +95 F)Operating temperature: -20 C to +50 C (-4 F to +122 F)Storage temperature: -40 C to +70 C (-40 F to +158 F)Humidity: 0 to 95% RH non-condensingSealing: IP54 rain and dust resistanceDrop survival: 26 drops onto concrete or steel from 1.98 m (6.5 ft)Shock and vibration: SAE specification J1399 Class 3 (off-road vehicle) – i.e. rated for permanent forklift mountingAmbient light: works from 0 to 100,000 luxPhysical: 17.8 cm (7 in) L x 7.0 cm (2.75 in) W x 11.4 cm (4.5 in) D; 425 g (15 oz) with batteryConfiguration: Intermec EasySet setup utility (version 5.6.5.3 or later for the SR61B); sets security, beeper tone and volume, good-read and error responsesRegulatory: cULus (UL 60950-1), CE Mark (EN 301 489-17, EN 300 328, IEC 60950-1, IEC 60825-1), FCC Part 15 Class B, C-TICK (AU/NZ), KCC (KR), ANATEL (BR), COFETEL (MX), SRRS (CN)Original warranty: 3 years on the scanner, 90 days on the battery (expired on this unit; sold as stock, not under manufacturer warranty)
Why the ruggedness numbers matter more than the scan rate:
Buyers comparing handheld scanners fixate on read speed. In a warehouse or a manufacturing cell the number that actually determines cost of ownership is the drop and sealing spec, because that is what the scanner fails at. IP54 plus 26 drops from 6.5 ft plus the SAE J1399 Class 3 vibration rating is a genuinely industrial specification – it means the unit is designed to be dropped from a forklift cab onto a concrete floor repeatedly and to live on the vehicle between uses, in windblown dust and rain. A retail-grade scanner rated for a single 1.5 m drop will not survive that duty, and replacing it three times a year costs more than buying this once. Note the honest limit: IP54 is dust-protected and splash-resistant, not washdown or submersion rated.
The SR61B was designed to pair with Intermec mobile computers – CN50, CN3 series, CK3, CK30, CK31, CK32, CK60, CK61, CV30, CV60 and the 700 series – as well as Intermec printers, the SD61 base station, and any standard PC or Bluetooth-enabled device supporting SPP or HID. Because HID makes it look like a keyboard to the host, it works with a modern Windows, Linux, Android or iOS device with no driver at all, which is why these keep finding second lives long after the Intermec terminals they shipped with have been retired.
Intermec was acquired by Honeywell in 2013 and folded into Honeywell Safety and Productivity Solutions (Honeywell AIDC). SR61 documentation, firmware and EasySet downloads are hosted by Honeywell, and distributors list this exact part as “HONEYWELL, SR61, 1D SCANNER KIT, INCLUDES BATTERY, CHARGE BASE AND POWER SUPPLY”. The SR61 line itself is discontinued; Honeywell’s functional successors in the rugged cordless handheld class are the Granit 191xi / 196xi family. Those are not drop-in replacements – different battery, different base, different configuration tool – so if you have an installed base of SR61B units and SD61 bases, buying a matching SR61B keeps the fleet homogeneous and avoids re-engineering the host integration. That is the real value of new-old-stock like this.
New, made in Singapore. Quantity 1. Boxes have been opened for photography and inspection; contents as listed above. Because the battery is a lithium-ion cell of some age, expect to charge it fully and verify runtime on receipt – stored Li-ion loses capacity whether or not it has been used, and a replacement battery is a stock Intermec/Honeywell item.
