Product Description

What this part is: Timken 3583/3520 single-row inch tapered roller bearing, cone and cup together. Bore 1.5000 in (38.10 mm). Cup outside diameter 3.3125 in (84.14 mm). Cone width 1.2160 in, cup width 0.9375 in. Series: 3500. Cone: 3583. Cup: 3520. Stamped steel cage, case-carburized steel rings and rollers. Design units: imperial. Country of origin: United States. Mounting dimensions: Cone frontface backing diameter: 1.81 in. Cup frontface backing diameter: 3.11 in. Cone backface to-clear radius: 0.14 in. Cup backface to-clear radius: 0.13 in. Effective centre location: −0.4 in. Cage-to-cone frontface clearance: 0.05 in; backface clearance: 0.07 in. What these specs mean in practice: Cone and cup raceways are ground as a matched pair, so the roller path, taper and setting behaviour are held between the two halves. A tapered roller bearing takes heavy radial load together with thrust in one direction, which is why these run in opposed pairs on wheel ends, gearbox shafts and pinion positions. Case-carburized steel gives a hard running surface over a tough core, which absorbs shock loading better than a through-hardened ring. The effective centre location and backing diameters are the figures used to set bearing spacing and shoulder heights on the shaft and in the housing. Quantity and configuration: One cone and one matching cup, supplied together. Unit quantity: 1 Set. Fitting notes: The cone is pressed on to the shaft seat, the cup into the housing bore. Setting is by axial adjustment against the opposed bearing in the arrangement, working to the effective centre location above. Interchange guidance: The cone in this set is a Timken 3583 and the matching cup is a Timken 3520. Searchable forms of the number: 3583/3520, 3583-3520, 3583 3520, 3583, 3520.
