Koyo22216RW33FYSpherical Roller Bearing 80x140x33 mm Straight Bore W33 Lubrication Groove Self-Aligning

Condition: New

Availability:

1 in stock

Spherical roller bearing, 80 mm bore x 140 mm outside diameter x 33 mm width, two rows of barrel rollers, self-aligning. Straight cylindrical bore so it mounts direct on the shaft, not on an adapter sleeve. W33 outer ring has an annular lubrication groove and three radial holes for relubrication through the housing. Standard CN radial internal clearance. Accommodates shaft-to-housing misalignment and carries very heavy radial load plus moderate thrust in both directions, for screw conveyors, fans, vibrating screens and long drive shafts.

Product Description

What this part is

This is a spherical roller bearing measuring 80 mm bore by 140 mm outside diameter by 33 mm wide. It has two rows of barrel-shaped rollers running in a common spherical outer raceway, which is what makes it self-aligning. The bore is straight (cylindrical), so this bearing mounts directly onto a 80 mm shaft seat — it is not the tapered-bore version and it does not go onto an adapter sleeve. The outer ring carries the W33 lubrication feature. Radial internal clearance is standard CN, since no C3 suffix is present.

Decoding the designation

The base number 22216 puts this in the 222 spherical roller series with a bore code of 16, meaning an 80 mm bore. The suffixes then tell you the specifics, and Koyo’s own nomenclature guidance is worth reading carefully here because one of them is routinely misread:

R — a Koyo internal roller-and-cage design code. RZ, RH and RW are related design codes in the same scheme. Important: R here does not mean a seal, despite what the letter suggests on other manufacturers’ parts.W33 — an annular groove around the outer ring plus three radial lubrication holes through it.FY — a cage code, the machined brass cage designation used on the medium 200 and 300 series.K — tapered 1:12 bore. Absent here, so this bearing has a straight bore.C3 — increased radial internal clearance. Absent here, so clearance is standard CN.

Why W33 decides whether this bearing fits your housing:
The W33 groove and its three holes exist so that grease pumped into the housing’s lubrication port reaches the bearing interior and is distributed to both roller rows. That lets you relubricate on a maintenance schedule without dismantling the assembly, which is the difference between a five-minute grease-gun visit and a shutdown.

The practical consequence runs in both directions. If your housing has a lubrication port drilled to feed the bearing, you need a W33 bearing: fit a plain non-W33 bearing in its place and you have blocked your own grease path, the port feeds nothing, and the bearing will run on its original fill until it fails. Conversely, if you have a W33 bearing and no housing port, the groove simply does nothing — harmless, but you gain nothing from it either. Check the housing before you order.

Why choose a spherical roller bearing at all

The spherical outer raceway lets the inner ring, rollers and cage swivel as an assembly relative to the outer ring. That means the bearing tolerates both static misalignment — a housing bored slightly off axis, a soft foot, a bolted frame that is not quite true — and dynamic misalignment from shaft deflection under load. Typical published misalignment capability for this bearing class is on the order of 1 to 2.5 degrees.

That tolerance is why spherical rollers are the default on long shafts, screw conveyors, bucket elevators, fans, mixers and vibrating screens. On a twenty-foot conveyor shaft carried in two pedestal blocks bolted to a fabricated frame, perfect alignment is not achievable and would not stay achieved. A ball or cylindrical roller bearing in that position runs with an edge-loaded raceway and dies early; a spherical roller simply articulates and carries on. On top of that, two rows of large barrel rollers give very high radial load capacity and moderate thrust capacity in both directions, so the same bearing handles the shock loading typical of aggregate and bulk-handling equipment.

Correcting the source data on dimensions

Some sellers publish this bearing with a width of 40 mm or 40.5 mm. Those figures are wrong for a 22216. They appear to come from copying data out of the 23216 family, which is a wider, higher-capacity bearing at 80 x 140 x 44.4 mm. The 22216 envelope is 80 x 140 x 33 mm and that is what this bearing measures. If you are replacing a bearing in an existing housing, the width matters as much as the bore — a 44.4 mm wide bearing will not go into a housing bored for a 33 mm one.

Correcting the source data on the 22216MB cross-reference

This listing carries 22216MB as a cross-reference, and we are keeping it because buyers search it, but it deserves an honest caveat. MB is an SKF and FAG style suffix denoting a machined brass cage with inner-ring guidance. It is not a Koyo designation. More importantly, 22216MB on its own describes a bearing without the W33 lubrication feature, so it is not a clean one-for-one substitute for 22216RW33FY. The correct published SKF interchange for a 22216 with the W33 feature is 22216 CC/W33, and the Torrington equivalent is 80SD22. Treat 22216MB as a search aid, not as a verified equivalent.

Fitting notes

Because the bore is straight, this bearing is pressed or heated onto a machined shaft seat and located by shaft shoulders, housing shoulders or a locknut arrangement. It cannot be mounted on an H-series adapter sleeve; for sleeve mounting you need the K-suffix tapered bore version, which for this size would be 22216 K on an H 316 sleeve, and that arrangement fits a smaller shaft diameter than 80 mm. Do not order a K bearing expecting to press it onto an 80 mm shaft, and do not order this bearing expecting to slide it up a sleeve.

Interchange guidance

Koyo bearing operations are now part of JTEKT, so current catalogue data appears under JTEKT and Koyo branding is the legacy name on the same product line. Search forms that reach this part include 22216RW33FY, 22216 R W33 FY, 22216-R-W33-FY, 22216RW33 and the base number 22216. The verified SKF interchange with the lubrication feature is 22216 CC/W33; Torrington 80SD22 is also reported. Confirm cage type and clearance class against your application if either is critical, and confirm the bore type (straight versus tapered) before ordering.
