Product Description

What this part is

An RHP Self-Lube® wide-inner-ring ball bearing insert for a 20 mm shaft, with a spherical outside diameter and an eccentric locking collar. Bore 20 mm, outside diameter 47 mm, overall width across the extended inner ring and collar 43.73 mm. The spherical outer ring seats in the matching spherical seating of an RHP cast-iron or thermoplastic housing.

Decoding the designation

1020 — RHP Self-Lube bearing group. The 1000 and 1200 blocks are the spherical-outer inserts intended for RHP housings; the 1100 and 1300 blocks are the parallel-outer versions for a purchaser’s own cylindrical bore.
-20 — nominal shaft size. On this scheme the trailing group is the bore, quoted in millimetres on metric parts and in inches on inch parts.
DEC — eccentric collar locking, on a long extended inner ring
G — grub screw, that is the knurled cup-point setscrew that clamps the collar onto the shaft

What these specs mean in practice

The eccentric collar is the locking method chosen where vibration is the governing condition. An eccentric diameter is formed on the extended inner ring and engages a matching eccentric bore in a separate collar; driving the collar round in the direction of shaft rotation wedges the two eccentrics together, and a setscrew through the collar then holds that position. The wedge action gives a larger contact area against the shaft than a bare setscrew does, so it resists creeping loose under reversing and vibrating loads. The setscrew-locked alternative in the same group is the 1020-20G.

The spherical outside diameter is what makes this a self-aligning mounted insert. It accommodates initial misalignment between the shaft axis and the housing mounting face when the unit is assembled, rather than continuous dynamic misalignment.

Fitting notes

The matching RHP cast-iron housings for a 20 mm bore in this group are the NP-DEC pillow block, the SL-DEC low-centre-height pillow block, the SF-DEC four-bolt square flange, the SFT-DEC two-bolt oval flange and the ST-DEC take-up unit; the thermoplastic Silver-Lube® equivalents carry the same suffixes. The insert drops into the spherical seating, the collar goes on outboard of the bearing, and the collar is driven round in the direction of shaft rotation before its setscrew is tightened.

Interchange guidance

1020-20G is the setscrew-locked insert on the same 20 mm by 47 mm envelope, and 1020-20GHLT is the high and low temperature build with silicone seals. Both are related sizes rather than substitutions, since the locking method and the seal material respectively are what change. 1220-20ECG sits in the flat-back inner ring block at the same bore.
